"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful." - Alice Walker

People are definitely part of nature, so remember this when you're giving yourself a hard time about something.

Hands up who thought that 'forest bathing' sounded like some weird pagan ritual involving nakedness?! Just me?

Turns out that it's actually pretty good for us! I've just written a new blog post about nature (including forest bathing) and mental wellbeing. Link in bio.

Last time I posted was last Friday and I was about to go to Cornbury Music Festival in Oxfordshire. It's taken me a few days to recover but I'm back! And I had the most amazing time.

Bryan Adams was undoubtedly my highlight since I've loved him since I was about 14 - teenage me would never have imagined that possible! Singing 'Heaven' along with him and his band....well....erm...it was heaven!

Have you made some memories recently - please share below if you have. The world needs more joy 😃

Did you know that there are at least 280 species of hoverfly in the UK?

[I realise the photo is a bee, but that's the closest I have!]

I learned this yesterday when I was trying to identify the rather chunky hoverfly that was buzzing around the garden yesterday! I have a new and lovely book about garden insects so I ran in to get it when we spotted the fly. I was convinced we had a Tiger hoverfly in residences (albeit the ID was based on a quick look at the moving insect without the book in my hand).

A few hours later and it reappeared and now two of us attempted the ID. It clearly wasn't a Tiger hoverfly so we started again. It turns out it was not in the book so I turned to Google. "It's this one!", I declared.... "or this one"...."or maybe this one?".

Getting decreasingly confident, I realised that without a decent photo we probably wouldn't be able to work it out. But, and this is the plus side, I now know there are 100s of hoverfly species to look out for... and they all have similar but different patterns on their abdomen 😆 There's even a Batman hoverfly because its markings look like the Batman symbol (apparently!).

Summer project for us all - how many different hoverflies can you spot! And when you're running away from that 'wasp' it may well be a harmless hoverfly.🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Hands up who loves Wimbledon fortnight? 🖐 Before becoming a mum, I would go down at least once during the fortnight (usually twice) to go and watch the tennis. If you haven't been, it's worth doing at least once in your life.
🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎
I'd catch the train from Banbury early in the morning, then catch the tube across London to Southfields and then thoroughly enjoy the 15/20 min walk to the ground.
🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
As the tube got closer to Wimbledon, it would be full of tennis fans; the train driver's announcements often add to the fun; and the sense of anticipation builds. The excitement is palpable! Then the walk up to the ground is the same, full of excitement and possibility for the day ahead.
🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎
I'd usually go down once with show court tickets (not always as hard to get as you'd think) and then just show up later in the second week, get a ground pass and spend the day mooching around, Pimms in hand, and catch what I could. Good times!

Might have to take my son down in the future and do it all again.

There are always horrible things going on in the world and rubbish things going on in our lives, so it is up to us to find the many pockets of joy and positivity in our world, to try to balance things up a bit.

Nature, as always, is a ripe source of joy and watching bees buzzing around flowers at this time of year is both calming and joyful.

Watching the Glastonbury coverage over the weekend has provided some opportunities to dance in the living room and sing off key. Positivity for me... maybe not for my family and 😁

Where have you found your joy this weekend?

Yesterday we went to a local farm for Open Farm Sunday. We hadn't heard of it before, but thanks to a friend, learned about it just in time to try it out.

It was fantastic! We learned about their wonderful Jersey cows, ate the ice cream produced from their milk, and fell in love with their Zwartbles sheep. These sheep have fluffy brown wool and are from The Netherlands. Their wool makes excellent mulch for keeping slugs off your plants too! And they are very chilled out.

The calf in the photo had the most amazing Bambi-like eyes. I didn't get a great photo of them, not helped by the fact I insisted on playing with my Lensbaby Trio lens, but I love the 'feel' of this photo.

Who else enjoyed their long weekend? I danced so hard and for so long at a festival last Saturday that I'm still a bit tired... but it was totally worth it!

I talk a lot here about the coast being my happy place, but I forget (until I'm in it!) that live music is my happy place too. I think outdoor live music wins over inside gigs, for me because it doesn't feel claustrophobic. Add in some sunshine - or at least takeaway the rain! - and it's a magical experience.

Plus the music was 'my music' at the weekend - Britpop, Rolling Stones and Queen (the later two being tribute acts)... happy as a pig in you-know-what!

And if you fancy it, I'd love to hear about your happy places... ?

Anyone else feel bad about thinning out seedlings?

I was sowing some seeds in the greenhouse the other day when I realised that, although I don't like thinning out seeds because it's boring, the main reason I don't like doing it is because I feel bad about them not fulfilling their destiny 😬😁

Am I the only one?!

Just 15 minutes spent amongst trees can have a restorative effect on your mind [1]. That's incredible, isn't it?

When was the last time you walked amongst nature? Your mind and body will thank you.
