3 things your camera manual never tells you 📷
You know that chunky manual that came with your camera? The one that's probably still in the box?
Yeah. That one.
Camera manuals are brilliant at telling you what the buttons do. What they're not so good at is telling you why you'd ever want to press them, or what happens to your photo when you do.
So here are 3 things I wish someone had told me when I first started:
1. Auto mode isn't cheating.
Honestly? Every photographer uses it sometimes. It's a tool, not a shortcut. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for using it when you're starting out. You need to make friends with your camera first.
2. You don't need to learn everything all at once.
Feeling overwhelmed by all the buttons on your camera is completely normal. It's a lot to take in — too much, in fact. Trying to learn everything at once is a recipe for giving up. Take it one step at a time. It's not a race.
3. Your eye matters more than your camera.
A £3,000 camera won't make you a better photographer. Learning to see light, composition and moments will. That's the good stuff.
Which of these surprised you most? Or is there something your manual left you completely baffled about? Drop it in the comments — no such thing as a silly question here. 👇
