Anyone can take a photograph of a person.

Building a picture of someone is something entirely different.

For example this photograph says so much without saying anything at all.
It’s youthful.
Playful.
A little shy.
Full of charm.

Because great photography isn’t just about posing perfectly. In this one frame, you can already sense personality, emotion and character.

That is storytelling.

It’s also the reason Ian and I naturally moved into personal branding photography. People connect with people, and not with polished perfection.

Why do professionals struggle with natural personal branding photography? 🤔

Getting that authentic, approachable vibe in photos is tougher than it seems! Here’s why:

1️⃣ Performing, not behaving.
When the camera’s on, we often start posing, rather self-consciously, instead of just being ourselves. It’s very natural so we take our time to relax our clients before we truly get started. Often music helps!

2️⃣ Awkward poses.
Often people don’t know how to pose – but we first have a chat with our clients and then gently guide them into poses that are easy and natural..

3️⃣ Worrying about judgment.
Trying to look perfect can show up in your face and body. Being genuine lets your true self shine.

4️⃣ The environment matters.
We strongly believe that photographing people in their usual hangouts, workings spaces and homes brings authenticity and believability. 

👉🏼 Remember, great branding photos should feel human first, strategic second.

Let’s be honest.

Most people don’t put off photos because of money.
They put them off because it feels uncomfortable.

But staying invisible online?

The right shoot doesn’t force you into something unnatural.
It brings out what’s already there.

Many business owners quietly outgrow the images they’re using.
Not overnight.
Gradually.
The business evolves.
Confidence shifts.
Values become clearer.
But the over-used photos stay the same.

There’s nothing wrong with that - until the mismatch starts to feel uncomfortable.

Not just for you, but for the person viewing them, trying to find a sense of connection.

Most people tense up when they don’t feel safe or sure of what’s expected of them. Photos don’t capture who you are - they reflect how you feel in that moment.

When the environment is unhurried and supportive, something shifts. The shoulders soften. The face relaxes. The image starts to feel true.

This is what confidence actually looks like.

This is why we build trust before we ever pick up the camera.

Real visibility means alignment - when your images reflect who you are, not who you think you should be.

When that happens, showing up starts to feel easier.
