Moine House with Ben Loyal looming behind. Sitting just off the A838, between Durness and Tongue in the very far north of the country.

The house dates from around 1830, sits in the middle of some fairly exposed landscape, and an old stone plaque reads “This house erected for the refuge of the traveller was to commemorate the construction of the Road across the deep and dangerous morass of the Moin…”

Another from my current wander through the Highlands with work. This one, Kylesku Bridge, a very recognisable and popular stopping point on the NC500.

The curve of the bridge leading to the hills in the background caught my eye.

The evening light added a bit of colour, making these colossal pieces of rock look even more impressive.

Growing up, I was regularly told “You’re so lucky to live in a country so beautiful.”

They were right.

On World Photography Day, here’s to the places photography takes us and the moments it makes us stop and appreciate what’s around us.

Few places capture that better than Rannoch Moor. Wild, remote and constantly changing, it’s the kind of place where you can return time and again and never photograph the same scene twice.

I’ve spent the weekend at Summers End Angus music festival, just two miles along the road from home.

It was an absolutely fantastic event with some brilliant bands and lots of fun was had by everyone attending.

This was taken as it just opened on Sunday and shows just how stunning a location it was for a music festival to be held.

If you’re looking for a family friendly festival with a great atmosphere and some brilliant live music, then I can highly recommend. We’ve just booked our tickets for next year.

Take off!

I’ve never photographed puffins from a boat before, previously just from the coastline. It was interesting to see them in water and try to get a couple of different photos.

This was from onboard the Anstruther Pleasure Cruises May Princess as we approached the Isle of May.
