Point and Shoot Photos Railway photographer, landscape photographer - anything photographer - where I go, the camera follows To be honest, I’m having a great deal of fun doing it.

I first picked up a Camera when I was about 12, back when you had to put roll in them and send them off at the Chemist! After a gap in taking pictures, I got back into the game a few years ago, shooting with my 'pocket rocket', the Panasonic Lumix TZ40. Since buying that I believe that I have grown my skills, and developed as a photographer. A kind friend loaned me his Canon 450D for a few years w

hich eventually gave me the bug to go out and buy my very own DSLR. I've currently got the set up of a Canon 70D along with an 18 to 200mm lens, which suits my style of photography very much. Over the last 5 years I've travelled to the West Highlands of Scotland, to the Mountain ranges of Snowdonia, had City breaks in Edinburgh, travelled along some of the most scenic train rides in the UK, and gone on many adventures. I hope that you like some of the things I take, and who knows, perhaps you’d like one of my pictures on your wall.

Today is Merchant Navy Day - so here's my little salute to four of the Southern Region 'Merchant Navy' locos that I've captured over the years with the camera.

BREAKING NEW GROUND

So on Sunday I managed to sneak away from the new small addition in our household while her and Mummy took a trip to the carboot, in the meanwhile ventured early morning down the M1 in search of some brand new territory to explore.

I've been making it a bit of a mission over the last few years to travel around the UK and 'tick off' all the Heritage Preserved Railways there are in the UK.

On Sunday I made it to Boughton - home of the Northampton and Lamport Railway. They had put on a special event to celebrate their 30th years of operating.

I was sceptical about my visit, but like many of my visits to some of the 'smaller' Railways they often offer more than you can imagine.

This was no different from the NLR. It might only have been a mile and a half of track, but packed within the small proximity was a pair of complete stations, an arrangement of sidings part way along the line along with a trio of signal boxes - at least two of them in fully working order - the third looked to be having some work done.

Throw into the mix and pair of Class 31's and a pair of Industrial saddle tank engines and an array of demonstration goods trains - similar to those that would have travelled across the rails back in the day - and of course the obligatory passenger train for people to travel on.

And one of the best features on the line in my book - the Platform Three Cafe - serving beautifully arranged brownie pots! I could have eaten them for breakfast dinner and tea!

Safe to say my trip was thoroughly enjoyed, I had a great time getting creative with the camera, my brain was kept working with their comprehensive timetable, and again, the staff who worked hard putting on the show deserve every compliment and credit going!

I hope you like my photos from my trip - like any trip this is just the tip of the ice berg - I'll be sure to drip feed the rest onto my page over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes opened :D
