I feel it’s time for me to address the negativity surrounding my business and, more importantly, to take accountability for my own part in it.
I want to be completely open and hold my hands up. I have made mistakes. There have been times when I have buried my head in the sand, avoided things I should have dealt with and let myself become overwhelmed. I am not saying this to make excuses. I am saying it because I need to own my actions and my shortcomings openly if I am going to move forward and rebuild.
For the past 18 months, I have been battling with my mental health in ways that many people will not have seen or known about. Personal struggles have triggered and intensified those difficulties, alongside living with lupus and the ongoing pressure of fighting to keep a business alive and moving forward after Covid. Over time, it has all taken its toll on me.
My struggles do not remove my responsibility for the things I could and should have handled better. But I do hope they provide some context to what has been happening behind the scenes.
My social media has been a reflection of those struggles. I haven’t posted since January, and even before that my posts were limited and inconsistent. I withdrew, became overwhelmed and repeatedly buried my head in the sand rather than facing things head-on.
I know that people only see what is in front of them. They don’t always see the private battles, the sleepless nights, the fear, the pressure or how difficult it can be to keep going when your mental and physical health are suffering. But I also understand that when you run a business, people still expect and deserve accountability.
I have built this business over 18 years. I am incredibly proud of what I have created, the people I have worked with and everything this business has stood for over those years. The last 18 months have been difficult, and I accept the ways in which I have fallen short, but 18 difficult months do not define 18 years of hard work, dedication and commitment.
I am not asking for sympathy, and I am not asking anyone to excuse my mistakes. I am simply choosing to be honest about where I have been, to own what I need to own and to stop hiding from the things that have overwhelmed me.
This is me facing things openly.
I know that rebuilding trust, rebuilding my mental health and rebuilding parts of my business will take time. I also know that words alone are not enough. I need to show, through my actions, that I am moving forward and doing better.
I cannot change what has already happened, but I can take responsibility for it, learn from it and decide what I do next.
So that is what I am doing.
I am holding my hands up. I am taking accountability. And I am working to rebuild both myself and the business I have spent 18 years creating.
Thank you to those who have supported me, stood by me and shown kindness during a chapter of my life that has been more difficult than I have been able to express.
This is not the end of my story or my business. It is the point where I stop hiding, start facing things properly and begin rebuilding.
