Sometimes the fastest way to get the shot isn’t finding the location. It’s building it.
We build a lot of what we shoot - a custom kitchen for Smeg, room after room for sixteen3, dressed and struck between set-ups on the same day. When the space we need doesn’t exist, we build it in studio instead.
The bit worth remembering if you’re doing this yourself: you only need to build what’s in frame. Half a kitchen, one convincing wall, a floor that reads right on camera. Everything outside the lens can be plywood and gaffer tape.
It also means total control over light. No windows fighting you, no landlord telling you when you have to be out. As it’s modular, the same studio floor can become three different rooms in one day if you plan the strike and rebuild properly.
