As part of our 175th anniversary celebrations, we’re excited to officially launch our photography competition:

✨ The Spirit of Durham Markets ✨

We’re inviting people of all ages and experience levels to capture what Durham Markets means to you. From traders and stalls, to customers browsing, architectural details, outdoor market scenes and those little everyday moments that give the market its unique character. This competition is all about the spirit, not just the building.

Photos can be taken using a camera, mobile phone, or drone (in line with UK regulations).

🗓 Entries open: Today!
🗓 Deadline: 30th April
🏆 Winners announced: 20th May (our 175th anniversary!)

Prizes will be awarded as Durham Markets gift vouchers, redeemable across both our Indoor Market Hall and Outdoor Market... and winning images will be displayed permanently as part of our anniversary legacy.

👉 Entry forms are available online (link in comments), and printed entry forms can be collected from the top of the entrance ramps to the Market Hall.

We’d especially love to see local schools, sixth forms and colleges get involved, so please help us spread the word to any educational establishments across the Durham area.

We can’t wait to see the market through your eyes. 💛

Hope you like the video it needs some music but in slow mo the sound of the traffic from the A68 sounds like the sea!.
Taken from the Isle of Arran featuring Pladda lighthouse . Needs to be big for the picture to really work . Customer has ordered a 36x12" print which I think is the minimum for this image.

Due to the current weather forecast it looks unlikely Saturdays market will go ahead . This will be the fourth market lost in a month . However, an extra market has been added for this Monday . We’re very grateful for any shares to get the word out . Many thanks John
