Oh hey lovely folks. Who’s delighted to have made it to the end of winter term?? I love that so many of my clients are teachers, and with me having a 9 year old who changed schools mid term just over a week ago, we’ve definitely got all the shared empathy at this time of year!

It’s been a year of extremely high highs and deeply low lows. I can emotionally make the connection to wedding days - it rarely all goes to plan. And people can need more rest than you expect!

I know my wedding industry peers are also feeling the fatigue after squeezing 18 months of weddings into the last 4 - such a huge achievement for all of us. Back pats all round.

I was reminded about this kiddo, personifying that end of term / end of season relief and just had to share. I’m pretty sure he was charging around the dance floor after this disco nap.

We can only do our best and be our most creative when we listen to our bodies and minds, to take up space and give ourselves time.

I’m going to be editing more and prioritising time with my boy around my last 3 weddings of this epic year. I’m also continuing to ask for help - something I have to actively work to do because it doesn’t come naturally.

How are you going to fit in rest in this busiest of weeks running up to Christmas?

And if you’re wedding planning, how are you making sure you feel rested for your day? Just as soon as my editing list is under control I’ll be sharing some tips to help you!

& : clients of dreams!

Engagement shoots are a perfect time to give this whole being in front of camera thing a try. You can push beyond your nerves or hang ups (we reject self hate round these parts!), do things you wouldn’t normally do in your wedding outfits and when time is limited on the big day. We get to know each other and I find out how you connect, what makes you laugh, find an in joke or two and how you love on each other.

Collaboration is key - these two had strong ideas of what they wanted, sent me a kick ass mood board which sparked ideas and set the tone. We worked together to make some whimsical, romantic, fun portraits!

Venue:

Image Descriptions: 3 portraits of Mark (a white man in his 30’s with dark brown hair and beard. His hairstyle, tattoos and general vibe is cool without looking try hard, you wouldn’t be surprised to know he used to be in a band) and Alisia (a white woman in her 30’s with a lush blonde balayage that is covered with a chic tan hat in one image. She has an infectious smile and would look at home as an edgy, slightly rock styled Disney Princess).

Image 1: Alisia has jumped on Mark’s back and the pair are giggling. They’re stood in a cornfield, definitely not doing anything the farmer would disapprove of.
Image 2: For a bit of first dance practice, Mark is twirling Alisia in the golden evening sunset light.
Image 3: the couple are kissing while sitting in a small wooden boat on a lake in front of a big willow tree. The photo is black and white and definitely has a look and feel of the boat scene from Tangled.

Today you’ll find me mostly chanting to myself on repeat “small weddings are wonderful, small weddings are enough” in some hope of that energy making it out into the ether.

The vibe amongst my wedding supplier network is half optimistic and half feels like we’ve arrived at yet another doomsday.

I’m firmly in “The Tory government has ballsed this up from the start” camp and don’t anticipate plans going ahead. They always said June was the earliest and given their unwillingness to stop air travel and properly manage incoming travellers at the border, plus the disaster cash spaff that is track and trace, Delta is probably going to mean more delays.

So here we are. But small weddings ARE amazing, small weddings ARE fun and wholesome and just as full of love.

One or two of my booked couples will be affected directly by a month delay, and it pushes even more to the border of the timeline again. I fully feel the stress and frustration of it. Also for all the lovely couples I’ve got in the first for second shooting and freelancing with over the next month too.

So onwards with the optimistic chanting.

Aqueela and Sammy proved that small weddings are amazing with their teeny tiny wedding back at the end of May. The love is still big, even if the guest list is small.

(Image Description: A South Asian couple (him in a blue suit, white shirt and pink tie, her in an embellished ivory dress) stand closely holding her pregnant bump together, with their hands interlocked. He’s kissing her head gently, she has her eyes softly closed. Behind them is a wall covered in purple wisteria)

Alice and Karl - my first couple to get married since March 2020 and it was a belter!

Image Description:

In the photo is a bride who is white with long ash blonde hair set in gentle waves with plaits around her head. She’s wearing an embellished ivory dress and holding a purple and pink hand tied bouquet with trailing lilac ribbons. You can see white DMs on her feet from underneath her floaty dress.
Also a white groom with short dark brown hair and trimmed beard. He’s wearing a grey and taupe checked 3 piece wedding suit, white shirt and taupe tie with matching pocket square. He is also wearing DMs (in brown) and black rimmed glasses.

They’re walking together, feet in step and looking at each other happily.

Behind them is Nottingham Council House on a bright sunny April day. It was the first weekend after covid restrictions were eased and the square is filled with people basking in the sun on either side. A small boy is scooting past a little way behind them. They were walking to catch an Uber to their wedding reception picnic with their close family.

I am so ready to be pelted with confetti again! Come at me Bro!! 🎉😎

(Image Description: the view from my camera - which happens to be the view from my face - as a white male wedding guest lobs a big handful of rainbow tissue confetti in my direction. Pretty sure he meant it to make a great photo, but mirrored sunglasses hide the motivation in his eyes)

Visual representation of me being launched back into wedding season with a double weekend. BRING ON THE JOY!!!

(Image Description: a group of 6 white men wearing blue wedding suits with greenery behind them. 4 of the men have lifted the 5th (the groom) into the air and look like they might launch him forwards towards the camera, while the 6th looks on. They all look delighted about the situation except for the groom who has a distinct mix of joy and fear on his face.)

These two embraced the showers and had a lovely walk around with me for their engagement shoot this weekend. They were super cute and got rid of any photo nerves before their wedding next year. Yay for engagement shoots!

(Image Descriptions: a white couple both with brunette hair in a series of four photos. They’re dressed for autumn, him in a green sweater and shirt, her in a white jumper and both wearing jeans.
In the first they are facing each other in front of green foliage that’s starting to show the turn of autumn. Their heads are together and he’s sweeping her hair back from her smiling face
The second they are stood in the forest, he in front her as they look towards each other.
The third is black and white, they’re stood among trees wearing coats and snuggled together to stay warm.
The fourth is also black and white, she’s kissing him in front of a massive old lovely looking tree)
