Refurbished CrossCountry trains sets over the mighty Royal Border Bridge 🌉

Opened in 1850 and designed by Robert Stephenson, this 28-arch Victorian masterpiece still carries trains high above the River Tweed—one of the most iconic railway crossings in the UK.

An early December sunrise… ✨
What a breathtaking view this morning over The Tweed…

Berwick glowing in the foreground with the North Sea and Holy Island waking up in the distance. Views out the window and moments like these make the early alarms worth it🌅✨

The "salmon steps" are a fish ladder (or fish pass) located at the site of a weir near Derwenthaugh and Swalwell, within the Derwent Walk Country Park in Gateshead. It was installed to allow salmon and sea trout to bypass the weir, which had been a barrier to their migration for centuries after the weird was built for industry.

Autumn above Blaydon Station: Hovering above Blaydon Railway Station, first opened in 1835 as the eastern terminus of the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway, birthplace of the world’s first rail excursion in 1840, and now a vibrant stop on the Tyne Valley Line, earlier this week was showing off autumn’s fiery palette all around 🍂🚂 station now managed by Northern and looked after by Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership

Soaring over the echoes of the Industrial Revolution at Dunston Coal Staithes on the River Tyne. Built in 1893 by the North Eastern Railway Company, this wooden marvel—over 1,000 feet long with six loading bays—once shipped millions of tons of coal weekly from Durham’s coalfields to the world, powering the Victorian era’s ambitions. By the 1920s, it handled 140,000 tons a week; operations hummed until 1977, when the last chutes fell silent. Now a Grade II-listed relic, it’s a haunting tribute to gritty teemers and trimmers who toiled here, reborn as a riverside haven after fires and floods tested its spirit. From drone’s eye, the past feels alive. 🌊⚓

Here is Scotswood Bridge, standing since 1967 replacing the original Chain Bridge from 1831 that kicked off Tyneside’s industrial boom and even inspired the Blaydon Races anthem! 🚂💨 Right in frame above is the historic old Blaydon Railway Bridge, built in 1871 after early timber versions burned down in the 1800s; it once hauled trains on the Newcastle & Carlisle line but now quietly carries utilities across the river. And peeking at the top? The modern Blaydon Bridge on the A1 Western Bypass, opened in 1990 to whisk traffic smoothly from Gateshead to Newcastle
