🚨 VOLUNTEERS 🚨
The UK Fire Service primarily operates through two models: Wholetime and On-Call. Wholetime firefighters serve as full-time personnel, while On-Call firefighters provide an essential service to smaller communities and strengthen resilience during periods of increased demand. On-Call crews are compensated for training, incidents attended, and their availability.
The Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade operates under an On-Call model—with one key difference: we are entirely unpaid.
Since 1884, the Brigade has been built on a purely voluntary basis. No firefighter has ever received payment for their service. This is a tradition we are immensely proud of and one we are committed to preserving. It makes us truly unique as an independent brigade, serving in a way that very few others do.
Our firefighters balance this commitment alongside their full-time careers. Within our ranks are business owners, IT managers, fire prevention officers, engineers, vehicle technicians, and social workers. Each individual gives their time and skills freely, demonstrating an extraordinary level of dedication.
Alongside operational duties, we also carry the responsibility of maintaining our long-standing history as a charitable organisation.
We are part of the community—and we are here for the community.
