​Standing tall through the Blitz, the Great Smog, and centuries of political upheaval, the Elizabeth Tower remains the steady heartbeat of London. There is a profound weight to this view; you aren't just looking at a clock, but at the enduring symbol of British parliamentary democracy.

​Even in the quiet of the night, when the crowds on Westminster Bridge thin out, you can almost hear the echoes of history in every chime of Big Ben. From the Victorian era to the modern day, this skyline has watched the world change while remaining a constant, golden beacon over the River Thames.

​Did You Know?
​The Name: While everyone calls the whole tower "Big Ben," that name actually only refers to the 13.7-tonne Great Bell inside.

​The Light: When Parliament is in session after dark, a special light (the Ayrton Light) shines above the clock faces.

​Survival: During WWII, the clock face was dimmed to comply with blackout regulations, but it never stopped ticking—even after the Commons Chamber was destroyed by a bomb in 1941.
