The Milky Ways are on me!

One for the bank holiday weekend. Normally the Aurora gets all the attention but Ireland is a Dark Sky Island and this is the best time of year to see the Milky Way.

A bit of planning will be needed, best date to see the Galatic Core (brightest portion above the horizon). Plenty of apps out there to guide you along. Usually mid month over the autumn and winter in Ireland 2026. Find the darkest location with as little light pollution as possible then shoot towards the South West horizon.

Here's what you can get when it all comes together. This beauty is looking south west towards Arranmore Island, County Donegal in late August early September. There is a little bit of light pollution from the island but it adds rather than detracts to the composition. Enjoy!

PS note the Andromeda Galaxy peeking in on the top left. Just a mere 2.5 million light years away.
