If you're heading outside to watch this evening's solar eclipse, enjoy it... but please do so safely!

Never look directly at the Sun without certified solar viewing glasses or appropriate solar filters. Sunglasses, camera filters and homemade alternatives are not safe.

If you're planning to photograph the eclipse, make sure your camera or telescope is fitted with a proper solar filter before pointing it at the Sun.

By now, you've probably seen plenty about the solar eclipse that's coming to the UK on 12 August, and for good reason.

It's our closest thing to a total solar eclipse since 1999, with up to 90% of the Sun obscured in some parts of the country. It's going to be spectacular, but it's important to enjoy it safely. Looking directly at the Sun without the correct protection can cause permanent eye damage.
