In 1906, 18 intrepid photographers came together to form Bedford Camera Club. They would cart their large wooden cameras and tripods around Bedford and take photos of local scenes like the one below - the Three Fyshes pub in Turvey.

This was daily life back then, but now from a time gone by. To mark the 120th anniversary of Bedford Camera Club, we are working on the 120 Project. The project replicates the above, but will capture everyday life in Bedford and surrounding villages in 2026.

To find out more and contact us about the project, please visit https://bedfordcameraclub.co.uk/120-project

With summer rapidly approaching, we're moving into Carnival season. Our latest Image of the Week captures the colour and maelstrom of the carnival.

"Carnival Time" by Neil Gribben really draws you in and creates a celebratory atmosphere.

Congratulations Neil.

A very topical Image of the Week from Ian Cooper, after Banksy installed his artwork just over a week ago. What a great photo opportunity as no-one knows how long it will be there for and such a high level of public interest!

Congrats Ian on "Athena and the Banksy"

Club member Dr Ioannis Toutoungi recently gave us a presentation and hands-on training to develop our flash photography skills. He demonstrated how a scene can be dramatically changed through a clever approach to lighting.

Ioannis' subsequent picture from Tommy's Half Marathon demonstrates this perfectly. Two flashes to the right and one on the left enhance the vibrant colours of the finish line, whilst keeping the cloud definition behind. It's a different way to capture a photo and a great portait of the winner (who incidentally asked for a copy!).

As a club we really appreciate the time and experimentation that went into this. It's an excellent way to hone and develop our photography skills.

Come along to our Tuesday club night to find out more!

This recent image of the week - "An Orchestra of Avocets" - perfectly captures the environment of the birds and their almost perfect reflections in the water. The symmetry of the photo is spot on too.

Congratulations to Ian Cooper who took the winning shot.

This atmospheric PDI from John Gough was one of the highest scoring PDIs (20 points) in this week's 3 Way Inter-Club Competition with Ampthill & District and Biggleswade camera clubs.

The judge praised the element of mystery and story-telling in the image. What do you think the story is? What is the man in the glasses seeing?

Congratulations John!
