The sun sets on green pine crowns amongst the blackened slopes above the An Lochan Uaine / The Green Lochan. Amazingly some big pine trees have survived even when engulfed by the inferno.
A constant privilege to witness everyone on RSPB Loch Garten Abernethy working together harder than ever to dig up & extinguish hundreds of smokers - smouldering peat deep under rock piles that could reignite with a change in the wind.
The fire could have been much bigger, but wasn’t l, thanks to multiple agencies working together from incident command @ Glenmore, directing fire crews, thermal drone pilots, bulldozers and other resources to all sectors.
Food provisions from the wider community has been amazing.
The peat is still burning underground but under control - to kill it off we are all doing our best rain dances!
