PANEL OF THREE COMPETITION 2024

Wednesday 15 May 2024, 19:30 - 22:00
Contact :[email protected]
This competition, the third we have held, gives BCG members another opportunity to show their skill in creating a Panel of Three PDIs.

Up to three panels can be submitted with each panel containing three images which should relate to each other in some way, either by subject matter, genre etc. but must have a theme running through them.

Each individual image within the panel can be either landscape, portrait or square or a mixture of any orientation. As for regular competitions, the dimensions of each image entered should be no greater than 1600 x 1200.
The Panels will consist of 3 separate images, a left hand image, a centre image and a right hand image.
The panel will be shown in full, followed by the individual images and finishing with the complete panel.

Our judge for this event is Alison Cawley ARPS AFIAP APAGB, a former member of BCG and an expert in creating excellent panels.

We are pleased to welcome Gordon Small to give us a talk this evening on the "Flora and Fauna of Hampshire".

After joining the RSPB in 1987, Gordon decided to take up wildlife photography as an aid to identification of all forms of wildlife. He travels around the South of England giving talks to RSPB Groups, Photographic Societies and Wildlife Trust Groups, including seven times to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Arundel.

This evening's talk covers a variety of areas in and around Hampshire: The New Forest, Titchfield Haven, Blashford Lakes, Noar Hill and Burghclere Lime Quarry reserves as well as Keyhaven, Pennington and Normany Marshes. Most of these are well known to BCG members and we look forward to seeing Gordon's images of the wildlife that can be seen, which will include birds, butterflies, dragonflies and fungi.

Knock-Out Competition
Wednesday 20 March 2024, 19:30 - 22:00
Contact :[email protected]
Our ever popular "Knock-Out" competition will take place this evening.

Members are invited to submit a number of of PDIs which will be displayed in pairs ( A and B) with members voting for their "favourite" one during each round, with two members of BCG giving their thoughts on either A or B images.

The chosen images will be "held back" and go forward to the next round. This process continues until only two images are left. The author of the winning image will receive the prize.

There is a lot of drama during this competition with PDIs of the same genre or subject coming up together and vying for the vote as the rounds proceed.

"A Year in Japan" Ric Gillams

Beaulieu Camera Group is delighted to welcom Ric Gillams this evening with his presentation "A Year in Japan".

Ric says that when he first started shooting, his emphasis was always on finding new places and things to photograph. More recently he is interested in capturing moments in time. He has started to appreciate the beauty in the everyday things and at the same time has developed the technical ability to capture moments and to get creative in both his choice of shutter speeds and composition.
Ric's work has been published various National newspapers in the UK and online.
Here is the link to his website: https://ricgillamsphotography.co.uk
This is Ric's description of his talk this evening: "In 2017-2018 I spent a year working in Tokyo and exploring Japan. The seasonal variation is highlighted by the famous cherry blossom in the Spring, the hot humid summers (and typhoon season), incredible autumn colours and the snow-covered winter wonderland of Hokkaido. Japan offers a huge diversity of experiences, with beautiful landscapes and wildlife, incredible cultural heritage and magnificent traditional and modern architecture amongst the hustle and bustle of the busy cities. I was very fortunate to be able to plan my trips to visit most of the regions of Japan and experience the different seasons along the way. I look forward to sharing some of the highlights with you."
