Bath Photographic Society

Bath Photographic Society Bath Photographic Society meets once a week, invites expert speakers and runs monthly competitions. It also has access to various external competitions.

Bath Photographic Society invites expert speakers to its weekly meetings. We cover a whole range of topics reflecting the diversity of the club. We also run workshops and some people arrange outings to exhibitions or photo shoots. Every month we hold competitions - digital and prints and also show Salon results - in which some of our members are placed. Our membership is very wide - some are profe

ssional photographers, many have attained distinctions from then Royal Photographic. Sociaty, whilst others own a very basic camera but enjoy the activity of taking pictures. That's all you need to join us!

We have another exhibition on THIS WEEK! 🥳📸 details below 👇

BPS St Stephen's Exhibition

Our photography exhibition is up and running at St Stephen’s church, Lansdown and it is looking good. We have 25 prints on display and many compliments on our work already. Entry is free.

Please do try and get along to the church to see it this week if you can to support it, there are some prints you may have seen before in our St Michael’s exhibition which you now have the chance to see again. Plus, there are some fine new images from BPS members, and the majority of prints fit the category of British Flora and Fauna to match the theme set by the church.

Many thanks to all who have helped with the exhibition which runs until Sunday the 14th of June every day between 2pm and 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Ted Eyles, exhibition organiser

We had an interesting talk from Leo Rich last week entitled – Sliding into Digital. His many beautiful images of Tigers in India were taken with his Nikon digital camera
Our president Pam adds:

Leo's presentation finished with the most exciting tiger story - a tiger charging through water to get to a deer and although the photos were stills I could absolutely feel the movement of the animal.  Gripping.

OnTuesday we have a talk from Leo Rich
Leo is a long standing club judge, has twice been president of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation and has been president of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain - yet classes himself as a “jobbing amateur photographer’.
In recent years he’s taken a special interest in environmental portraiture and natural history and many of his photos are taken on his annual trips to India, including his tiger shot above.
Having put himself through the mill in trying to catch up with technology and going digital, Leo thought he would produce his first projected digital image talk outlining some of the pitfalls he experienced along the way…

Taktshang Monastery 'Tiger's Nest' by Matt Roberts

Thank you Matt Roberts - our member who gave us a great presentation on his epic trip to Bhutan in 2008.
Matt gave us an intriguing travelogue starting with a flight into Paro from Kathmandu and took us on a fascinating journey into a culture dominated by a value system which is based on happiness rather than economics.
Matt explained that the happiness quotients the Bhutanese use are different to the quotients most recently used by the WHR (World Happiness Report).
It is interesting to hear of a country which is governed in such a different manner and Matt's coverage in the second half prompted more questions as he covered immigration policies and citizenship rights In Bhutan.
A thought provoking evening and some beautiful images Matt, thank you very much - BPS President, Pam

Last week we had a studio evening with a professional model -Marianna. Here are some examples from our members (note that the crops aren't exact here to fit the different photos on one post).
Marianna was incredibly helpful and professional, she helped our members learn how to direct a model and work with studio lighting. A great learning experience for everyone.
Swipe to see some bts shots of the evening and set up
