Castlerigg stone selfie.
So I thought the stone circle of Castlerigg would have been heaving with photographers on a crazy night of Aurora, but I was the only one there (At the time I got there).
Taking advantage of being on my own, I was able to stand by the stones to just take some time to watch the display all around me. This night which ever way you looked there was something to see.

Room with a view.
For the second time, I've caught the aurora at this lovely location looking down Buttermere valley. The solar storm on the night of the 10th-11th October was just incredible. It lasted all night and covered the whole sky. Normally when the UK get aurora, the expected KP is about a +5 which is good, green glows on the horizon, KP6 is often columns. This one got to KP8, this put some visible colours and patterns in the skies directly above let alone on the horizon.

Prints are available upon request.

Aurora in the Lakes.
A few weeks ago we had one of the best aurora storms I've seen in the UK. On the way back from my shootin location I stopped by this picturesque farm and took this.

The last week of subzero temperatures have allowed some tarns to entirely freeze over.
Blea tarn was one of those tarns. The road up to it was totally impassable which meant no-one else had headed up to this spectacular spot.

Cloud inversions are special at the best of times but being above one at night gives you some great starry view and silky ocean like waves of cloud.
This was my first outting this year for a cheeky run up Catbells.

I've been away from night shots for a while, I've been busy shooting aviation in fantastic low-level locations. I hope 2024 will allow me to get out a bit more.

This is Furness Abbey. Well, the ruins of it anyway. Located just outside of Barrow-in-Furness, this lovely spot is great for small family trips and afternoons out away from the hustle and bustle of the lake district.
----------------------------------
Even though it's near the bright lights of local town Barrow and Dalton, the stars are very visible on a clear night.
