Hello Ewe,
Just the heads up, I had tentatively invited a few interested folk to the planned evening Preview of this FOLLOWING EWE exhibition but sadly the Preview has been cancelled. I’ve tried to let everyone know personally but I realise I may miss some. So, big apologies, there is no Preview. But the exhibition opens still on Monday 8 June and can be viewed during the Library daytime working hours. Everyone welcome. The Library staff are very welcoming and enthusiastic and will provide SHEEP related activities for children over the summer I believe too. And sheep related books will be available for Ewe to read. Too many puns? I’m happy to meet there too with individuals or groups who might like an Artist’s natter. Please contact me if you’d like this. There’s a cafe in situ and others round about too 🫖 and lots of Culture in our town, 🎨🏰🌻, so a drop in here could be part of a BLOOMING GRAND DAY OUT🐑🐏🐑. Please visit if Ewe’d like to.

Future exhibitions Following Ewe By Elaine Vizor Monday 8 June to Saturday 29 August Elaine Vizor has always been interested in photography, from being a teenager when she got her first Brownie film camera (which she still has). At Bowlees Visitor Centre, near Low Force, Newbiggin in Upper Teesdale. Open every day 10am to 5pm. My exhibition is on until 20 May. Celebrating women in farming but not exclusively (lovely Shearers pic). Marie Gardiner photography created a film with my images and her soundtrack and it’s running alongside the exhibition. Thank you Marie.

A little reminder of some opportunities I never envisaged when I set out on my unchartered journey into photography. It was more of a therapy then and enrolling on an MA seemed like good medication! It didn’t turn out quite like that but gave some unexpected opportunities, being a Taylor WESSING finalist was one, 2014. There have been many others over the years and more recently I was very privileged to retrospectively show my portraits of women taken over those years alongside .co.uk’s ten years of amazing backstage portraits, at BATH GALLERIES Auckland Town Hall last year 2024. I was equally privileged to have worked with Gardiner - Photographer/Writer who created the accompanying beautiful soundtrack for this retrospective with the real voices of local women living in the Durham Dales. The most recent Four Seasons of a Hill Farmer, shot in Newbiggin, went on to show at the Fitzhugh Library in Upper Teesdale.
So, this may be a little indulgent look back, encapsulated in Marie’s film and soundtrack. Thanks to Marie and Debbie Connell for making this happen.

Have you visited the new Kirkcarrion Gallery in Middleton in Teesdale? It’s worth a first time visit and return visits too. It’s a privilege to have work displayed alongside such prestigious artists. Nestled under the stairs in the coordinated display is one of my prewash cyanotype photos. Can you spot it? I have Light Paintings too. As an Associate Member any sales provide a commission for the gallery which helps with the running costs. The gallery hosts a wide range of art to view and purchase, lovely gifts as Christmas approaches. 🎁🌲🎁 You’ll get a warm welcome, please drop in if you can.

Still time to pop in if you’d like to, until the end of May.

Still to view in the Fitzhugh Library in Middleton in Teesdale is a selection of my photos of local women in farming. It’s free and a great way to see the small library with a vast archive of local history. Derek and Cath are so knowledgeable and helpful and happy to find materials that might help with research. As well as a selection of photos to view, there is also the video of the fuller exhibition images and its accompanying soundtrack created by , photographer, filmmaker and author. It is pleasing to know that it has been enjoyed by visitors so far. The exhibition at the Fitzhugh Library will continue until the end of May. Please look in if you’d like to.

Free Gov funded DIP INTO CRAFT taster sessions at Green Arts in Newton Aycliffe. If you’d like to join any or all then contact Green Arts. You’ll get a warm welcome and I’m sure enjoy being creative in the lovely work space. If you’d like to dip into the vintage blue and white Cyanotype printing process and create a photogram without the aid of a camera then I’d love to see you too. 💙

As part of Durham County Council’s The BIG ARTS PROJECT, last week I had the opportunity to take part in an Artist Residency at Teesdale School, alongside Lizzie Lovejoy Illustration, thanks to Northern Heartlands CIO. Lizzie worked inside with the students while I worked outside sharing the Camera Obscura experience with them. We had a very full, busy and most enjoyable week with the TEESDALE School students and the staff who were very supportive and enthusiastic too. Big thanks to for timetabling the week and making it work so well and for the project vision.

Durham County Council has funded the Big Arts Project, a community scheme which invited organisations and artists to host a series of workshops and activities across the county from March to October.
