🔥 Clearway Scrapyard Fire Titanic Quarter / Queen's Island, Belfast

📅 What Happened

Wednesday 2 September 2026 at Clearway Disposals Major Fire 🔥 involving 4,500 tonnes of scrap cars & metal, described as a "well-developed, large blaze"

Cause: Under investigation; lithium-ion batteries in scrap are strongly suspected and a major hazard factor.

🚒 Emergency Response.

👨🏻‍🚒 NIFRS: 50+ firefighters deployed from multiple stations (Central, Knock, Cadogan, Westland, Bangor, Glengormley, Whitla, Springfield, Lisburn)

Equipment: Multiple pumping appliances, high-volume pumps, aerial ladder platform, command support unit and Belfast Harbour fire tugs for water supply

Operations: Crews working through the night; machinery being used to break up scrap to access deep seated fire and described as "very challenging"

⚠️ Impacts & Advice

- Smoke: Large black plume visible across Belfast and as far as Bangor
- Cruise ship disruption: Viking Sky departed 3 hours early due to smoke
- Road closures: Queen's Road at Wolff Road junction; East Twin Road closed
- Public advice: ✅ Keep windows/doors closed; avoid the area; turn off vehicle AC if passing
- Injuries: No reported injuries; all site personnel accounted for

📌 Previous Incident — May 2026

A major fire also occurred at the same site on Sunday 24 May 2026, involving a 50m×50m scrap metal pile, with 60 firefighters in attendance

STATUS. As of this morning: Firefighters remain on scene; operations expected to continue for some time.

⛪️ Priory Church, Killadeas.

Aerial Heritage Over Lower Lough Erne Captured from above, the Priory Church (Church of Ireland) sits quietly in the village of Killadeas, just north of Enniskillen - a traditional stone parish church with its square tower, slate roof, and peaceful grounds framed by mature trees and rolling Fermanagh countryside.

Beside the church lies its historic graveyard 🪦, home to some of Ireland's most important early-Christian carvings, including the famous Bishop's Stone.

A richly decorated Celtic-era figure stone that links this site to the earliest days of Christianity around Lough Erne.
