I missed the exact moment of pellet ejection by a millisecond. I know owl behaviour inside out and knew the signs a pellet was about to be thrown but still missed the exact expulsion.
The little owl might not be native of the UK but they have slotted into our eco system without any drama, a small bird with a huge personality and they have so much character.

A Little Egret feasting on gudgeon for breakfast in the early morning sunshine.
They were once hunted for fashion. Their delicate breeding plumes were highly prized for women's hats in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This hunting pressure helped inspire some of the earliest bird-protection movements.
The first pair of recorded breeding Egrets in the UK was 1996.
These days their conservation status is of least concern and you will now see them along most riverbanks.

Led on my stomach, finger poised over the shutter button and holding my breath waiting and willing the hare to come closer.
Staying hidden in stinging nettles and hawthorn has its challenges but when I go home with an image like this it makes it all worthwhile.

This year, I have concentrated on my hare photography, studying their habits and learning their behaviours.
For those who follow me, you will have seen that the majority of my work focuses on getting as close as possible to the hare, using my fieldcraft skills and knowledge of the land.
Sometimes, an image is not about the detail in the eye or the dew on the whiskers; it's about simplicity.
This one image stood out to me. As I was quietly walking to one of my usual locations, this lone hare stood on its back legs to survey the area, and I took the shot.
It now hangs framed on my wall as a reminder of the simple things in life.

Badgergate.
I was walking along when this badger stopped me in my tracks, as I approached the gate I could see old stripy looking at me through the bars and couldn't resist the framed photo in the dying evening light.

Tongue out Tuesdays.
Sometimes the tongue just pops out when you have to concentrate on running, and this little leveret had somewhere to be in a hurry.

A jay photographed among the bluebells just before they went over.
I love the electric-blue flash on the wing of this bird against the vibrant blue flowers.
The Eurasian jay is one of the most important natural dispersers of acorns and can help create new woodlands by moving around 2,000 acorns in a season.
Some people call the jay vermin because it will take eggs and young birds from nests, but so do woodpeckers, jackdaws, sparrowhawks, and many other bird species, alongside stoats, weasels, and mink.
Jays are highly intelligent and are excellent mimics of sounds and noises.
