Going back to last week's partial solar eclipse. To be honest, I wasn't happy with my shots, for various reasons and excuses. After a ton of editing, I quite like this one. I just couldn't get the colour and the lighting right in my original shots, so the fact that this edit is virtually sepia with little detail, kind of works for me. What was really nice though, was to see the rowers on Damflask Reservoir just carry on regardless of the celestial event that was taking place in the sky.

Turned out to be a beautiful day for the Barlow Carnival . Nice to the see a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight making an appearance, and going low! It's a beautiful part of the Peak District. And whilst a lot of farmland is looking dry and colourless, there's a bright and vibrant patch of sunflowers and meadow flowers at Barlow sunflowers .

This morning's partial solar eclipse... Controversial opinion, perhaps, is that I find this view much prettier than last night's. Also, I'm not too pleased with the shots I took last night, but that's irrelevant :D It was such a beautiful sunrise this morning, lots of haze, drifting clouds, flocks of birds (that I kept missing).

Got a good view of this buzzard whilst travelling through the Peaks. Beautiful markings, don't you think? There was another one as well, I think they were...ahem...you know... flirting; and they disappeared into a bush.

Bamford Edge last night. Heather is coming along nicely. Cirrostratus* clouds diffused the light of the setting sun. A cool breeze blew across the edge. It was rather lovely up there. The views are always spectacular. Have you been? Have you any plans on going up whilst it's still summer?

* probably, but what do I know, I'm no weather man! :)

I'm not sure what made me drive down to Crich today. Well... seeing the BBMF planes, but still. Anyway, I'm glad I did. Primarily because we were treated to TWO BBMF planes, the Spitfire and the Hurricane. And they did a wonderful figure-of-8 over the Tramway Museum. They'd been performing at Blackpool airshow earlier in the day, and were now on the way home to RAF Coningsby, via a few scheduled fly-pasts.

I watched them from the elevated grounds of the Sherwood Foresters Memorial Tower (or Crich Stand). What a beautiful place. The memorial and the beacon are very impressive and the views are spectacular in every direction. The sun was out, we could some classic wartime tunes coming from the museum... lovely couple of hours spent.

Do you think he's seen me? Beautiful hare (was) having a little nap in a field in the morning sun . He kept an eye on what I was doing, but didn't run off....for a change!

It's been a while since I posted a proper landscape photo (at least one that doesn't have an aircraft in it). So I went to Higger Tor a few days ago to enjoy the sunset. The heather is "getting there" in terms of its purple colour (I did accentuate it a little in this photo). And the sunset itself was nice and orange-y.

Did you see the Chinook (from RAF Odiham ) fly through the Peak District this afternoon? For the most part, you may have had to look down instead of up, it was that low in some places. I just about managed to get Derwent's turret and the 'wokka' in the same shot.... one of those occasions where I wish I'd taken a wider lens instead the big zoomer.
