In some ways Twenty24 felt like a step back in time, as I went full-circle and jumped back into shooting analog film to compliment my digital work. When I first picked up a 35mm camera in my youth it was all film, and when I trained as a Royal Navy Photographer I was there for their crossover from film to digital. I thought we’d all left the darkrooms behind for good but the nostalgia that film brings just can’t be ignored. The happy accidents, one-shot takes and imperfection of film has always been at the heart of how I shoot, so bringing that raw feel back into my work has been wonderfully refreshing.
Wedding photography never sits still. I love how it keeps pushing me to be experimental with my work and move my creative boundaries. Being at the forefront of these trends is something that I’ve always prided myself on. My last year has seen a real shift into a more editorial look, a world where documentary photography might meet daytime flash, an angle may work better than a straight line, and my film-look edit sits very closely to the real thing.
However, despite all of that, some things just look good whatever way and format it’s taken with, and whatever the decade it’s been taken in. The colourful blur of confetti. A raucous dancefloor on a summer night. The triumphant raise of champagne glasses – cheers! The vibrancy and fashions of the day. And of course, the people and their beautiful smiles. Miles and miles of smiles.
This past year has seen it all… and my highlights of it can all be found here... https://www.luisholden.co.uk/2024-my-personal-highlights/
