Lidgett house 🏚👻
The property was long associated with Mr. and Mrs. Lidgett, a well-known and affluent couple in the area. The Lidgetts were financially comfortable, with Mr. Lidgett operating the surrounding farmland, which contributed significantly to their wealth and local standing. Over the years, the household kept several dogs, with their most recent companions being Springer Spaniels.
Despite the outward appearance of prosperity, life within the house was marked by hardship, particularly for Mrs. Lidgett. She was a double amputee, reliant on two prosthetic legs, and her mobility declined further in her later years due to deteriorating health. Accounts from carers describe her as a gentle, softly-spoken woman with a fondness for beautiful clothing and dressing elegantly. However, she rarely left the house, reportedly venturing out only three times a year when a close friend took her on outings.
By contrast, Mr. Lidgett was remembered far less favourably. Descriptions from those who knew the couple suggest he was a difficult and unkind husband. During periods when his wife’s health confined her largely to her room, he is said to have provided her with poor-quality meals, turned off her lights and television after the carers had left, and generally contributed to an environment of neglect. Carers often countered this by bringing her proper food and companionship. The couple lived largely separate lives, each occupying their own room within the house.
There is supposedly a spectral presence, particularly that of a young boy. Mrs. Lidgett herself reportedly saw the child sitting on the stairs, and at least one carer claimed to have witnessed unexplained activity in the home, vowing never to return. I, however, noted no unusual atmosphere in the house or uncomfortable presence.
Mrs. Lidgett passed away in 2010, after years of declining health. Mr. Lidgett later moved into a care home, where he remained until his death in hospital in 2017 at the age of eighty-three. The family also included Mr. Lidgett’s brother, Rupert, whose First World War service is commemorated in a photograph kept within the household, showing him in military uniform.
Today, the story of the Lidgetts offers a glimpse into the private realities behind a prominent rural home—combining local memory, personal tragedy, and stories of spiritual sightings long after its residents are gone.
