Every time someone says Photoshop actions are “cheating”, I always think the same thing…
Is using a paintbrush cheating because you didn’t make the bristles yourself?
A Photoshop action doesn’t create your artistry. You do.
An action is simply a recorded series of steps. It can’t decide where your light should fall, how much contrast your image needs, what colours suit your subject, or what emotion you’re trying to create. It just carries out instructions.
The real magic comes from understanding why those steps work.
Once you know what an action is doing, it becomes one of the most valuable tools in your workflow. Instead of spending 20 minutes repeating the exact same process on every image, you can let an action handle the repetitive tasks and spend your time on what actually matters… the creative decisions that make your work uniquely yours.
That’s exactly why I create my Photoshop actions the way I do at Sweet Soul Studios.
They’re designed by a photographer, for photographers. They don’t replace your editing skills. They enhance them. They save time, create consistency, and let you focus on telling beautiful stories instead of clicking through the same menu fifty times.
Working smarter has never been cheating.
It’s just good workflow.
