Last year it was the last week of February when The Cheviot adders came out of hibernation so only a few weeks till they re-appear. There were 12 at the site last year, but the year before I counted 25. Soon after the slow worms and common lizards emerge. Here's hoping for a good year for our native reptiles.

Out in Northumberland, I came across a ruthless stoat on the hunt, he had already grabbed two rabbits but they got away, the third was not so lucky. Footage not for the faint-hearted and a couple of red squirrels feeding at the end to balance out the violence.

Last year Wallington Hall Estate announced they had plans to introduce Pine Martens and offer them a safe haven on the estate. This would be good news for our native Red Squirrels as it is hoped Pine Martens would keep the Grey Squirrel numbers down which would help Red Squirrel numbers increase. I have been very fortunate to see and photograph Pine Martens in Scotland. Amazing animals about the size of a large cat.
