In my last use of flight restriction zone authority in Stanwell, I completed a short operation at the Stanwell Congregational Church. Built in 1954 with some modern development in 2003, it is a brick built chapel with a church hall to the side. The church community is evangelical Christian and has been formed since 1939, and has close ties with both Staines and Ashford Congregational Churches. Situated in Viscount Road near to the small parade of shops in Clare Road, it is a central hub for the community with a good sized car park at the front of the hall, which many churches locally do not benefit from. Prominant in its tiled roofed square tower is an embedded tapered white cross with wood surround, a lovely piece of engineering and skilled brickwork.

I was lucky enough recently to practice my skills at St Mary the Virgin church Stanwell. Using my DJI Matrice 4E with Manifold 3, I was able to model and map this 800+ year old church situated at the edge of Heathrow Airport's runway. Not only did I learn about planning and managing a flight in restricted airspace. I also gained a greater understanding of the photogrammetry workflow using the Manifold 3, which is a truly amazing bit of kit. As always I was monitored by my amazing friend and mentor Simon Adams. We really had a great day out. The bonus here is I was able to learn and practice, whilst helping out a good cause. As I will be giving the model to the local vicar, a keen tech geek, to help him argue for restoration work. Good deeds all round. This video was generated using the new DJI Reality program. 4888 images in total. Really pleased with the results.

As my wanders of Stanwell continue, thanks to my Flight Restriction Zone approvals, next on my list of the boroughs churches, is St Davids Catholic Church. Situated close to my last posts subject, across the playing fields in Everest Road. This church was built to support the expanding village, with the development of Heathrow Airport in the mid 1960s. Consecrated by Cardinal Heenan on 15th January 1967, and designed by Denny & Bryan Architects of Watford. It features a copper roof which has oxydised into the stunning blue green patina we see today.

I had the honour today, to donate my time with my friend Simon Adams, in support of this beautiful Grade 1 listed church. Completing a full survey, inspection and 3D model of the site to help them manage their heritage and maintenance responsibilities. This is St Mary the Virgin Church in Stanwell.

Special permission was gained to complete the flight, as it is approx 100m from the runway at Heathrow, and well inside the Flight Restriction Zone. It required careful management and risk assessment to ensure a safe flight was completed. However, Im hopeful that it will produce some amazing results, even if the 4000+ images we took will take several days to process...

The church was built in the 13th Century with various additions over its 800 year life. The spire is dated to the 14th Century and is famous locally for having a significant tilt. Built on Norman foundations with Gothic architecture it is a truely stunning example of one of the boroughs churches, full of history in an ancient village.

At the end of the flight I grabbed these images for the churches media team and to add to my local churches project. I hope you like them.

Whilst attending a funeral on the outskirts of Canterbury yesterday, I was fortunate to spot this beautiful old Windmill on my route. As I never leave home without my drone, I was able to quickly pull over and get some shots. This is Chillenden Windmill Kent. It was very blustery, but my drone handled it well, to get some lovely views of this stunning location. Kent truely is the garden of England. The mill was built in 1868. It is apparently the last surviving open-trestle post mill in Kent and is Grade II listed.

Next on my visit list is Ashford Baptist Church. I have to admit, had I not been looking, I would have never known this hidden gem was here. Tucked behind the Tesco Express, it is a modern build full of facilities for young and old with a very welcoming staff and congregation. Built in 2016, the congregation has been part of the community since 1935 at various locations around Ashford Middlesex, until finding its permanent home here. Facilities include a stay and play, coffee mornings, a book club, fitness classes and religious services.

The sister site to my previous post, this is Woodthorpe Methodist Church in Ashford. Set in the backroads, it is a modern square spire with glass windows surrounding the whole block under the eaves. It has a crucifix embossed into the brick work of two outer facing walls and has a small garden of flowers. Formed in 2021 with the megring of the Ashford and Laleham branches of the church, its website describes the name taken was to honour the road joining them.

Once again, the pigeons in this area seemed to dislike me, so these were taken rapidly to say the least. I hope you like them.
