I have a small exhibition opening at the Nairn Community & Arts Centre today and running until the end of July. If you are in the local area and have a few minutes to spare I hope you will stop by. Meet Phoebe. Upon arrival at Tampa International Airport, she is waiting to greet you on the main concourse. Quite the statement piece and the perfect pink ambassador to welcome you to a state stuffed with tropical species to see in the many State parks and wildlife refuges in Florida.
Can’t wait to see her again.

As my visit to Punta Gorda and Englewood Beach comes to an end, I thought it worth giving a shout out to the wonderful Four Points Hotel right next to Laishley Marina in Punta Gorda. It’s an easy walk to downtown or a short car ride, they have a great Tiki Bar and restaurant right by the water with super sunset views, and have complimentary bike hire as well.

I joined for a kayak wildlife tour at Don Pedro Island State Park yesterday. What a brilliant time - the manatees in particular were in a good mood and we had up to 5 individuals around us at one time. Danny the guide was great at carefully and respectfully positioning us so we didn’t disturb them, but they chose to come and check us out. He was a fount of knowledge as well about the animals and ecology of the area. Highly recommended!

When I knew I was coming back to Florida and the area of Punta Gorda and Englewood Beach, finding a great seafood place was high on my to do list. came highly recommended and being part of the group of restaurants was an easy choice. Super fresh oysters and how could I turn down key lime pie! 🦪 🍋‍🟩

This chatty chameleon at near Punta Gorda & Englewood Beach in Florida was just chillin’ 😎 🦎 They have an amazing collection of reptiles from all around the world. Cool place to visit.

We hit up the wonderful Bella Napoli Pizzeria & Restaurant this evening. Pizza, clams and shrimp & grouper dishes were all amazing and a lovely atmosphere inside as well. Another great choice while staying in or visiting

Spotting alligators hauled out along the Peace River is pretty cool if like me you don’t get the chance to see them in the wild very often. Wildlife tours by boat like ours with will give you great chances like this.

I’m loving the great choice of independent restaurants here in Punta Gorda, FL. Tonight we hit up the Burg’r Bar with its great choice of named burgers, or you can create your own as I did (bison burger, blue cheese and grilled mushrooms on brioche with the usual lettuce, tomato and pickle - glorious!)
Then it was on to a true local institution - Celtic Rays, an Irish pub with a superb collection of pub memorabilia on display which has survived several hurricanes as evidenced by the marked high water levels in one of the bars as shown. A good time was had.
