To the west of Keswick lies the peaceful and unspoilt Newlands Valley. It is easily accessible from Keswick and is separated from Derwentwater by a single range of hills. By road it is only 3 miles to Stair, a small hamlet at the start of the valley. A winding road with frequent glimpses of the Newlands Beck leads you to Littletown, another small hamlet. Close by is Newlands Church, a pretty whitewashed building situated at the foot of the hills.

Honister Pass is a mountain pass in the English Lake District. It is located on the B5289 road, linking Seatoller, in the valley of Borrowdale, to Gatesgarth at the southern end of Buttermere.

One of Britain's most impressive prehistoric monuments sits on a low hill to the east of Keswick with a ring of mountains surrounding it. Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the earliest stone circles to be found in Britain and is important in terms of megalithic astronomy and geometry.
