Stuart James photography Well this has been a bit of an oversight on my part. Welcome to my photography page, British wildlife for the most part. Feel free to like and share.

I took photography up as a hobby during the first lockdown and have absolutely fallen in love with it.

Men at work.....

You can see where this male greater spotted woodpecker has started his pecking, you can tell it's a male because of the red patch on his head.

You can also see how the tail is involved in supporting it when it is doing its thing and that's quite the span the toes have there too.

The vampire harvest mouse....

It's been a real struggle to get out just lately, the weather hasn't been kind and the work going on behind the scenes preparing for Christmas is very time consuming and is only going to get more so.

However, once we're through that I can get myself out and about for a couple of the days whilst we're on our Christmas break and get some new photos.

In the meantime.... here's a harvest mouse and I've caught the picture in such a way that it looks like it has fangs, it obviously hasn't, it's the right foot perfectly placed 🤣

Test flight.....

The unmistakeable sound of the whoosh of a swan taking flight caught my ear, and I just about managed to adjust my settings in order to catch it as it went past.

It being one of the youngsters practising was a real bonus, you can see just how white..... and big it has gotten now 😍

Asleep on his feet....

A rather striking pose from this gorgeous fallow stag. As impressive as the size of the red deer stags antlers are, I think the fallow deer stags antlers are equally if not more impressive.

What's ruffled his feathers.....

After hearing about the weather we were to be expecting this weekend and then leaving work on Friday with the sun shining, I got home and went straight out with the camera.

Unfortunately there wasn't too much about, though I did spend a little while with this robin who, I believe, was courting another.

It puffed out its chest, ruffled up all its feathers and sand away to another robin on the other side of the river.

It also looked like that bit on its beak was stuck in the nostril, possibly a seed casing, but it didn't slow it down any 🙂

Stag on a grey day.....

I thought this was an apt photo for this very dull and grey day....

After getting up at 3:30am for work it's rather depressing leaving work at 12pm and it looks and feels like 5pm because it's so grey and miserable. What's more annoying is when it rains too, a mix of grey and rain does not make for a good wildlife walk *sigh*

Come back light and sunshine..... all is forgiven 🤣

Wearing its winter plumage with great pride this starling casts a rather unnerving glare....

The brown steaks on the top of the head were a surprise, I'd never noticed that before and even in the cold weather, that iridescence is still finding a way through.

A splash of colour....

I fancied a splash of colour today so I had a look through the camera roll and, after passing a mandarin duck and a kingfisher, I finally settled on a puffin.

It still astounds me that a puffins beak is only this, rather fabulous, colour during breeding season and in the winter it sheds the colour and it becomes a dull grey. I'm assuming so as not to bring attention to itself out on the high seas.

Chirping away.....

annoyingly this isn't as sharp as it could have been (I set my shutter speed too low as it was a little darker than I would have liked) the robin started singing just as I was taking the shot.

I really like the wispy green that is going on in the background.

The jay on a broken post....

I think this is a young jay, it certainly wasn't as wary as the others that visited, the exuberance of youth perhaps.

Whenever I look through my photos I try to get a good look at the eye/s, particularly when it's a close up shot, and this one really does have really healthy looking eyes.

A right Bobby dazzler I say 🙂

A teenage Bambi....

Not quite Bambi as Bambi from the book is a roe deer, Bambi from the film is a white tailed deer and this one..... from Bushy Park.... is a fallow deer. Keep that bit of info in your noggin it's bound to come up on a quiz somewhere 🤣

A gold crest kinda day....

There seems to be loads of gold crests about the lakes at the moment. They don't seem too keen on people so are keeping themselves hidden, which isn't very helpful when you're trying to photograph them.

With how quick they are and the fact they barely sit still for a second, added to that they are hidden behalf twigs and leaves, it's a wonder I got any photos at all.

The first photo is the closet one got to me, the second is the closest I have managed to get one with its crest up and the third was a battle to focus through the branches and twigs.

A pain in the bottom to photograph, but a cracking little bird 😁
