A familiar bird in a different moment.

I’ve photographed this one in flight before — one of those shots I was really happy with and later used in my exhibition. It’s also a bird that both me and my fiancée have always liked seeing around.

This time it was completely still, standing in the river with its reflection beneath it.

Same bird, different moment.

The Courthouse Bench

Omagh, August 2026.

This bench at the Courthouse is one I know well.

I’ve sat there plenty of times myself, looking down over the town and just watching people come and go. Over time, I’ve also photographed quite a few different people either sitting there or standing nearby.

It seems to be one of those popular little spots that quietly becomes part of the rhythm of the town.

Different people. Same bench. Different moments.

The Courthouse

Omagh, August 2026.

I always get a little Back to the Future feeling when I look at Omagh Courthouse — I blame the clock. 😂

It’s an interesting building that has stood over the town and witnessed a lot over the years.

But there’s another little detail in this photograph that I particularly like: the man sitting on the bench in front.

I seem to keep finding photographs around that bench. Different days, different people and different characters sitting in exactly the same place.

Maybe that bench is becoming a little documentary project of its own without me even realising it.

Pray to Jesus Now

Omagh, August 2026.

I spotted this little “PRAY TO JESUS NOW” sign attached to a pole in town.

It looks like it could have been there for quite some time, although I have a feeling it may actually be fairly new.

Nearby, a religious group was preaching in the town centre — singing, speaking to passers-by and asking people about their faith.

Whether the sign was connected to them or not, I don’t know. But for a moment, the two things became part of the same scene.

One of those small details of town life that could easily go unnoticed.

The Crossing

Omagh, August 2026.

I photographed an elderly gentleman on this same crossing a year or so ago, so when I saw this scene developing, it immediately caught my attention.

The crossing leads towards Omagh Bus Station.

Is she travelling somewhere? Heading for a bus? Or simply passing through?

I don’t know — and I like that I don’t.

A familiar place, another person and another moment in time.

The Couple

Omagh, August 2026.

This one made me smile as I took it.

From the brief moment I saw them, they simply seemed happy going about their day and enjoying their time together.

I know nothing more about them than what existed in that passing moment — two people walking side by side through town.

Sometimes that’s enough to make a photograph.

The Man on the Bench

Omagh, August 2026.

There’s always something I find interesting about people sitting and waiting on benches in town.

You notice someone, wonder who they are, where they’re going or what they’re waiting for. Sometimes there’s just something about a person or a moment that makes you stop and take the photograph.

I don’t know his story — and maybe that’s part of what makes the photograph interesting.

Just another quiet observation from an ordinary day in Omagh.

30 Before 30 | 12/30

Another one from the catch-up.

This is part of the site of the Old Tyrone Hospital in Omagh. somewhere I’ve always loved photographing.

There are a few old buildings around the site, each with their own character, but there’s something about this one that always catches my eye.

The stonework. The tall windows. The architecture. The shadows from the surrounding trees.

It has an almost Gothic feel to it, and no matter what the weather is doing, the place always seems to carry its own atmosphere.

Some locations just suit black and white photography, and for me, this is definitely one of them.

Moody, old and full of character — exactly the kind of place that makes me want to stop and take a photograph every time I pass it.

30 Before 30 | 11/30

I’m a few days behind with the 30 Before 30 project, so today is going to involve a little bit of catching up.

But if there was ever a photograph to post on World Photography Day, this feels like the right one.

An iconic view of Omagh, with the Strule Arts Centre sitting right at the heart of it.

For me, though, the Strule represents something much bigger.

It’s where I held my first solo photography exhibition — a huge milestone in my photography journey and one of those moments that made all the years of taking photographs, learning, experimenting and pushing myself feel worthwhile.

There’s something strange about photographing a building you’ve seen countless times when you have such a personal memory attached to it.

To most people, it’s the Strule Arts Centre.

To me, it’s also the place where I got to walk into a room and see my own photographs hanging on the walls.

And somehow, without planning it, I’m sharing this one on World Photography Day.

Couldn’t really have timed that much better. 📷

Now… only another four to catch up on!

Happy World Photography Day 📷

For me, photography has never just been about taking a nice photograph. It’s about noticing what’s happening around us — the people, the streets, the buildings, the little interactions and details we normally walk straight past.

The ordinary things that might not seem important today can become the photographs we look back on years from now.

That’s probably why one line has come to sum up what I love doing:

“Photographing the ordinary before it disappears.”

Here’s to carrying the camera, slowing down and continuing to notice the things worth remembering.
