Solar Burlesque above Pike o’ Blisco

I’ve never been overly enthusiastic about eclipses but as it was in the back garden I felt the need to oblige and with little to no planning headed Langdale Valley way before being greeted by this framing, one of my favourite fells Pike o’ Blisco on the horizon and a little manoeuvre or two to line the shot up just right.

The small but stunning residents of Harrop Tarn along with some elite tips for Macro Photography ⬇️⬇️⬇️

1) Get really really close to your subject.
2) If you don’t own a camera, drill a hole in your wall and turn your living room into a functional Camera Obscura.
3) Tempt the insects out by decaying - nothing extreme, an unkempt fingernail will do.
4) Find an area of forest that’s full of trees.
5) Wait for some time.

Follow for more amazing photography advice 😉

(Don’t worry - a proper tutorial coming soon) 📸

Very rare to have such endless days of sunshine in the UK and I certainly didn’t move to the Lake District to get a tan, so I’ve been hiding away throughout the day and enjoying the short yet starry nights trying my hand at deep field astrophotography. The Cygnus loop made up of the East and Western Veil Nebula, is the remnants of a supernova thought to have been created around 20,000 years ago. This panorama of the nebula was taken over 3 nights - 6 hours worth of exposure at around 400mm - 1864 exposures stacked and processed in Siril.

The Headhunters of Per Village, West Papua New Guinea - welcoming to us but genuinely terrifying if you were in their bad books - the low, breathy chant as they emerged from the forest in thin canoes - armed for the hunt.

Shaking off a cloud of pollen, this female Juan Fernández hummingbird darts between the Redvein Flowering Maples in a stunning display only possible to witness on 1 small Chilean island in the Pacific - San Juan Bautista also known as Robinson Crusoe Island. This bird is critically endangered with only a few thousand thought adults on the island.
The males are a deep chimney red with gold, iridescent crowns while the females, strikingly different, white with speckled emerald and blue feathers.

Spectacular, and definitely a place to put high on your list!

That first bite is always the best. They both know it - that’s why they’re looking into the camera 📸

Leopard Seals have been recorded catching and eating up to 14 penguins a day, so when we came round to witness the second course - we made sure the cameras were ready and the moment was just right.

Amazing conditions visiting the Stork nests, just outside Alvor, Portugal. Tough shooting in such low light but always worth the experience and seeing how much ISO you can cram down your greedy little neck 😉

Orcas hunt as a team.

One misses on purpose.
Another lifts the prey.
The last one ends it.

This is not chaos.
This is choreography.
