Morning frost across the garden and a male bullfinch perched on dock w**d in the early light. His red breast stands out against the winter colours as he searches for food among the stems.

Scenes like this show how garden plants and wild corners continue to support birds through colder weather, especially in the early hours of the day.

I left the garden to grow for the year and was surprised to learn how important these w**ds are for birds.

Sunset over the Welsh hills, with the Skirrid rising above Abergavenny. As the light begins to soften, the colours pop, and the landscape changes as the day comes to a close.

This is a place best experienced quietly, sunsets or sunrises are ideal. Watching the sun drop behind the hills shows how much beauty there is in simply standing still and paying attention.

A Fallow Deer in the Forest of Dean.

Neutral lighting in the forest and a single deer moving through the trees. This is the side of wildlife I’m drawn to and resonate with, calm, watchful, and unhurried.

When I’m in these moments, it’s specific audio that resonates best with it. Instrumental music and natural forest sounds, the moment feels as it is: wildlife in its natural environment, without interruption.

Sunset settles over Amboseli as a herd of elephants makes their way home. This is what I love most about wildlife photography, unhurried, calm, and full of presence.

Moving together through the warm light, the herd follows familiar paths, dust rising softly around them. There’s a steady rhythm to their movement, each step purposeful as day fades into evening, young elephants tucked safely among the adults.

Moments like this are why I’m drawn to wildlife photography, observing animals in their natural environment without interruption, letting the scene unfold and feeling truly connected to it.

Early morning frost in a quiet garden, and a beautiful female bullfinch. This is what wildlife photography in the backyard looks like.

The female bullfinch sits on a cold branch, feathers fluffed against the chill. Calm and watchful, she blends perfectly into the stillness as the light slowly comes up.

Moments like this remind me how much life garden birds bring to even the smallest spaces. As part of my wildlife photography journey, I’m learning that rewilding doesn’t depend on size and every backyard can become a place for nature.

A Black Grouse making a run for the hills.

Being over in Scotland last winter was a fantastic experience and rewarded me with this unplanned photo. While waiting for some mountain hares to appear, this black grouse decided to walk past for a higher elevation.

It’s my first ever black grouse photo and I instantly loved the dark colour against the bright white snow, with a little red pop. I often go out for one animal but get distracted all the time!

While everyone is excited about the Black Winged Kite spotted in Gloucester, I had the chance to photograph one slightly farther away.

It was sun bathing in the photo, drying off from a light rain while it scans the horizon.

Spotting it was a challenge brut the reward was it let me take its photo without flying away.

I’ve been quiet on the social media, quiet with the camera, as I lost my creative drive. But since moving house and hanging my wildlife photos…I’ve seen a little enthusiasm return.

So, I thought it best to post my favorite animals and one of my favorite trips ever. Isle of Mull and river otters. Here’s to hoping the enthusiasm comes back!

Let me know what you do to get the drive back!?

As we battle the UK heatwave there’s moments in a day that bring me back to Kenya.

This baboon definitely knew how to survive the heat in Kenya, taking rest in the shade amongst a small little forest in Amboseli Park.

During the safari we watched the baboons play for some time and this baboon didn’t move once. They knew how to handle the heat, the sun, and get through the long, hot days.

Young Eyes, High Ground, a Cheetah on Watch

Balancing on a fallen tree, this young cheetah takes in the savanna. Part lookout, part throne, part safety.

At this age, every vantage point is a lesson: where the wind moves, how the prey scatters, and what the world looks like when you’re built for pursuit. Still growing into its speed, still learning the stillness that comes before the sprint.

The vantage provides information for hunting, surviving, and relaxing while the sunsets on the savannah. These moments realise you’re in their habitat, in their world, and that’s the beauty of a safari.
