We managed to spend an afternoon exploring La Roche-sur-Yon thanks to the recommendation of Céline Cappelaere! 😉

It was a lovely mix of cycling, history, culture and something a little different...

We parked on the outskirts of town in a quiet spot at the entrance to a park (see Park4night #223254) and then cycled into the centre, arriving at the impressive Place Napoléon, the heart of the city and a great starting point for exploring.

From the square, we wandered over to the beautiful Saint-Louis Church, which is beautiful example of neoclassical architecture, before discovering one of La Roche-sur-Yon’s most unusual attractions - Les Animaux de la Place. This unique attraction features a collection of 13 mechanical animals, crafted from wood and steel, that manage to bring the square to life, creating a fun and unexpected experience right in the centre of town.

We then continued our afternoon with a visit to the Art Museum - Musée municipal Espace Malraux, which is free to enter. It was a great way to finish our exploration, taking in the museum's collection before cycling back to the motor home and spending a quiet night.

Thank you for another relaxed afternoon discovering another fascinating corner of France.

Our exploration of Les Sables-d’Olonne continued with plenty of time to wander around this fascinating French port town and take in the sights, sounds and atmosphere.

From the busy harbours packed with boats and yachts, including the yachts of the Golden Globe Race competitors just before heading off around the world! There was long sandy beaches, impressive piers and lighthouses reaching out into the Atlantic, there was always something interesting to discover around the next corner.

The town has a wonderful mix of maritime character, colourful buildings, historic streets and beautiful coastal views.

We also enjoyed exploring some of the quieter corners of the town, discovering little chapels, interesting architecture and those unexpected details that make wandering around a place like Les Sables-d’Olonne so enjoyable.

These photos capture just a few of the sights we came across during our walks and bike rides around town. A fascinating port, a beautiful coastline and plenty of hidden treasures.

We spent 5 nights exploring Les Sables-d’Olonne, finding the perfect free motor home parking spot just outside the town (see Park4night ref #625757).

From there, we jumped on our bikes and cycled into town, making it an easy and enjoyable way to explore this beautiful French coastal destination. 🚐🚲🇫🇷

There was so much to discover, from the impressive port, long sandy beaches and stunning coastline to the lighthouses, piers, beautiful cathedral and charming little chapel. Everywhere we went, there seemed to be another interesting corner, beautiful view or piece of history waiting to be found. 🌊⚓️🏖️

But one of our favourite discoveries was something a little more unusual… a secret hidden street tucked away in the town that you really shouldn’t miss when visiting Les Sables-d’Olonne! 👀

Three wonderfully relaxing days in Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef on France’s beautiful Côte de Jade.

We stayed in a free Parking spot within walking distance to the coastline, and we spent our time enjoying peaceful walks along the 4.5 km of Atlantic coastline, sandy beaches, ochre cliffs and traditional fishing huts, as well as the occasional cycle along the coastle paths. Evenings were all about slowing down, watching the sunsets from the pier and harbour, and simply enjoying the sound of the sea.

Sometimes, you don’t need to explore somewhere new every day… just a few days to unwind, relax and enjoy the moment.

Vannes is the kind of place where every turn seems to reveal something new, cobblestone streets, colourful half-timbered houses, ancient stone walls and hidden corners full of character. We spent the day wandering through the historic old town, taking in the atmosphere and discovering what makes Vannes so special.

From the narrow medieval streets, we made our way onto the impressive ramparts, where beautifully planted gardens sit alongside the ancient city walls.

We wandered through historic gates and beneath old towers, following the walls and imagining what life here must have been like centuries ago.

We then continued to the magnificent Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, one of Vannes’ most striking landmarks, before once again making our way through the old town towards the waterfront.

Our walk ended at the Port of Vannes, where the historic town meets the water and the boats add the perfect finishing touch to another fantastic day exploring Brittany.

Another little piece of France discovered on our motor home adventure! 🇫🇷❤️

Next we decided to make our way to visit the town of Larmor-Baden, which is an active marina and an important oyster farming center.

We managed to find a free moho parking spot on the outskirts of Larmor-Baden (Park4night ref #591193) and then took a lovely scenic walk through the town towards the coastline.

From there, we followed the beautiful shoreline and, at low tide, crossed over to Île de Berder on foot to see the old shipwreck resting in the shallows.

After the island, we continued along the coastline and managed to find a rustic, quiet restaurant overlooking the bay where we enjoyed a taste of the local fresh oysters, washed down with a chilled glass of white w**e, the perfect way to finish our day exploring Larmor-Baden!

Sometimes the best places are the ones you never planned to visit!

We were simply trying to find a service area when we noticed crowds of people all heading in the same direction. Naturally, our curiosity got the better of us…so we decided to follow the crowd and see what all the fuss was about!

And what a discovery! We suddenly found ourselves at the beautiful Port of Saint-Goustan in Auray, a historic medieval harbour tucked away at the bottom of an estuary in southern Brittany.

With its cobbled streets, ancient stone bridge, charming half-timbered houses and bustling quayside, it felt like we'd accidentally stepped straight into another time!

We wandered along the harbour, explored the narrow historic streets and soaked up the atmosphere of this wonderfully picturesque corner of Brittany.

And to think… we only stopped because we were looking for a service area! 🤣

Sometimes, getting a little lost really does lead to the best adventures! ❤️🇫🇷

After leaving the town of Concarneau, we continued down along the coastline for only about 10kms and ended up at a peaceful, free parking spot called Aire de Camping-Car Route de Kerlaëron (nearest town is Trégunc) with beautiful sea views, a lovely beach and stunning coastline to explore.

See Park4night ref #4960 - definitely a fantastic little stop if you’re motor homing through France! And to top it all off, we were treated to a gorgeous sunset!

Join us as we explore the remarkable Ville Close of Concarneau, one of Brittany’s most fascinating historic treasures.

Surrounded by impressive medieval fortifications and sitting right in the heart of Concarneau Bay, the Ville Close is a place where history, architecture and maritime life come together.

We first head up onto the ramparts, following the old defensive walls and taking in spectacular views across Concarneau Bay, the fishing harbour and the busy yachting marina. 🌊⛵

From the ramparts, you can really appreciate the unique setting of this fortified town, surrounded almost entirely by water and overlooking the bustling maritime activity of Concarneau.

We then wander through the narrow cobbled streets inside the ancient walled town, discovering its charming buildings, little shops, cafés and historic corners along the way.

And to finish, we take to the skies for a stunning aerial perspective of the Ville Close, revealing the full scale of the ancient walls, harbour, boats and beautiful Breton coastline.
