If you are thinking about a civil ceremony in France, start with eligibility and timing. The mairie ceremony is the legal wedding, and every commune can have its own process.
What to check first:
1) Do we qualify to marry in this commune (residency, paperwork, timelines)
2) What documents are required, and do they need official translations or apostilles
3) What is the ceremony schedule, and how long does it really take on the day
4) Are photos and video allowed inside, and where can the team stand
Many couples do the legal part at home, then have their full celebration in France. Both approaches are common. The key is deciding early so you can plan the day without last-minute admin stress.
If you are planning from abroad, keep all key answers in writing (email is enough). When rules and logistics are clear, everything else becomes fun again.
One small habit that helps a lot: ask for one clear sentence when something is vague. "Usually" and "normally" are where stress hides. Clear answers in writing remove 90 percent of last-minute surprises.
