Topdown shot of Gorey Pier in Jersey 🇯🇪.
It is one of Jersey’s most recognisable and much-loved landmarks, standing on the Island’s east coast since the 1800s.
In recognition of its cultural and historical importance, Gorey Harbour was awarded Grade 1 Listed status in 2015.

Can you spot me?

The lesser known bay at Plémont, Le Petit Plémont Bay in Jersey 🇯🇪 . Access from land is only via Plemont Fort and this bay is superb for exploring with a few hidden caves and soft sand which is accessible but ONLY on low tide as you will get cut off.

The red gates of Clumber Park Clock Tower located in Nottinghamshire are open to allow the view towards the 19th century Gothic Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin. This impressive ‘cathedral in miniature’certainly lives up to its local nickname, being the same size as most parish churches and yet commissioned only to serve the 7th Duke of Newcastle and his small family. Those who lived and worked on the estate were also invited to attend services here.

Les Landes racecourse is set in the picturesque coastal area of Grosnez in the north-west corner of Jersey. It was established in 1961 and serves as the home of the Jersey Race Club, which has roots dating back to 1832.
It is the most southernly racecourse in the United Kingdom and in my opinion possibly the most picturesque race course in the world.

Topdown of Archirondel Tower located in Jersey. It was built on a rocky outcrop in St Catherine’s Bay in 1794 and the breakwater is the remains of the plans to build a large harbour back in 1849. The harbour was to stretch to St Catherine’s breakwater where the entrance to the harbour would have been. The tower was used as a garrison for artillery soldiers and has been a key defensive point throughout Jersey’s history. Did you know that some of the surviving towers around the island have been painted on the seaward side to serve as daymarks (navigational aids). Archirondel is painted red and white, while other towers are painted white and red or white.

Built on a rocky islet in St Aubin’s Bay, Elizabeth Castle has defended Jersey for more than 300 years.

The castle is accessible at low tide by foot, or, at both low and high tide, by the Castle Ferry, which will transport you across the bay to and from the castle. Work began on the castle in the 1590s and it was home to Sir Walter Raleigh while he was Governor of Jersey, from 1600 to 1603.

The future King Charles II also sought refuge at Elizabeth Castle during the English Civil War and during the German Occupation the castle was refortified and used as one of the strong points commanding the sea approaches to St Helier.

Gorey Castle as it is popularly known by locals was built in the 13th century as the island’s main defence against the French whose coastline was only 14 miles away. The castle was built at Mont Orgueil because sea and cliffs protected the castle on three sides. Also, the granite that the castle was built on meant that it was virtually impossible to undermine. During the next century it survived sporadic attacks and a 7 year occupation by the French and was the English Crown’s administration centre, home to the Governor of Jersey. It was also a desolate home to debtors, criminals and the occasional suspected witch. By the 16th century however, Mont Orgueil Castle was out of date. With the new ship-mounted cannon and gunpowder, it was now open to attack from the bay and the hill opposite so a new castle was built to replace it, nearer to the strategic port of St. Helier (Elizabeth Castle)

Havre Des Pas Swimming Pool was built by the Jersey Swimming Club, which was formed in 1865 following the tragic drowning of two young boys in the sea at Havre des Pas. There were many witnesses but nobody knew how to swim so the boys could not be rescued when they got into difficulty. The pool provided a safe place to hold swimming lessons, and there were regular swimming and diving competitions as well as gala events. The pool fell into disrepair when the Island’s first indoor pool was opened at Fort Regent leisure centre in 1972. However, it was restored in 2000 and has benefitted from today’s growing interest in sea swimming.
It is one of the oldest bathing pools in the British Isles.
