A mile of paved road takes you exactly one mile - a mile of runway takes you everywhere you wish!

This snapshot is from April 2026, when at the EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg, there was really only one mile of runway available. The main runway 15/33 was under maintenance at the time, so only the much shorter East-West runway 25 was available for this easyJet Airbus A320 and all the other aircraft.

13 June 2008 - one of several visits of the two Boeing 737-800s Transavia had on lease from Sun Country Airlines at the time to add extra capacity for the summer season. They still wore the Sun Country livery in different shades of blue, with Transavia titles and logos just stickered over the livery. Just one of many good football catches at the EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg over the many years I have been doing this.

Do you know this foggy feeling in the morning? Here are three shots for you, taken at Milan Airports Malpensa a few weeks ago on a very beautiful day out in the sunshine. A little patch of morning fog rolled in along the ground and disappeared ever so quickly and smoothly again. In the pictures you can see:

Talk about arriving at a Football World Cup in style! When the CommBank Socceroos arrived in Germany for the 2006 World Cup, Qantas took care of their final transfer within Europe, taking the team from Rotterdam to Stuttgart on a Boeing 747-400. VH-OJB was the aircraft to arrive in Frankfurt early that morning and was then ferried to Rotterdam and finally back to Frankfurt after letting the whole squad and staff of the Socceroos disembark.

A seismic shock for the whole industry or just a wild PR stunt?

Wizz Air announced a couple of days ago the end of the airplane mode on the smartphone. What sounds really weird to start with is actually the introduction of Starlink in-flight internet technology on board the Wizz Air fleet. In 2027, the Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier will launch Starlink internet on board its aircraft, spelling the end of passengers being forced offline for the duration of a flight journey. Allowing full connectivity appears to be high on Wizz Air's agenda, but with no prices or other conditions mentioned just yet. Whether everyone will be online on their flights thus remains to be seen. But do you really need to be online on every flight as well? Surely opinions about this will be divided!

So far, Riyadh Air has been operating just the one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, HZ-RXX. The aircraft is leased from Oman Air, where it initially flew as A4O-SD. At Heathrow Airport, Riyadh Air will start commercial operations this week. Previously operated daily flights since a few months had been available to select business partners and Riyadh Air employees only. HZ-RXX was seen arriving at Heathrow in the morning of 15 May 2026, approaching Runway 27L on its flight from Riyadh.

As one of the initial six Airbus A350-900XWB delivered to Malaysia Airlines between 2017 and 2018, 9M-MAC sports the Negaraku livery with parts of Malaysia's national flag painted all across the rear fuselage. It can be seen at Heathrow Airport very regularly, as the airline still operates two daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Heathrow every day. It was seen here on approach to Runway 27R in mid-May 2026.

Seen here in December 2025 at Suvarnabhumi Airport, this Boeing 777-300/ER has been flying with Turkmenistan Airlines since January 2024. Previsouly, it had been active with Cathay Pacific as B-KQB.

In four days at Heathrow Airport last month, there was only the one Boeing 747 to be seen - Cathay Pacific Cargo Boeing 747-467F/SCD B-LIC arriving onto Rwy 27L on Saturday afternoon, 16 May. Cathay Cargo still operates a decent amount of Boeing 747s, while the type has become very rare otherwise, even at Heathrow, which used to be 747 heaven.
