Kisses from Spain! Finally fresh photos from Mediterranean waters!
Close up on an amazing colourful nudibranch called Pilgrim hervia, or Cratena peregrina in ancient Roman!
Those guys were abundant and seen at almost every dive in the Medes Islands Natural Park in Spain. They grow up to 5cm, body is thin and slender, with a large pointed tail. Coloration is white with 8 to 10 clusters of dorsal cerata (comes from greek and means «horn» so that explains the meaning) which can be red, purple, brown or blue, with tips coloured in luminescent blue. Those cerata act like gills, and each of them contains a terminal outgrowth of the digestive gland, called diverticulum, and that is the second new word for today. There is another feature with funny word associated with those nudibranchs, follow my posts as I will keep that for later!
Native to the Mediterranean, this Nudi can also be found in Atlantic Ocean from France down to Senegal! That means that they did Paris-Dakar well before humans invented it!

Наконец-то свежие фото из вод Средиземного моря! Удивительно красочный голожаберный моллюск Cratena peregrina!
Этих чудиков было много, и я их видел почти при каждом погружении в природном парке Медес в Испании. Они вырастают до 5см, тело тонкое и стройное, с большим заостренным хвостом. Окраска белая с 8-10 скоплениями спинных отростков которые могут быть красными, пурпурными, коричневыми или синими, с кончиками, окрашенными в люминесцентный синий. Эти отростки являются жабрами, и каждая из них содержит конечный отросток пищеварительной железы, называемый дивертикулом.
Этот нудик родом из Средиземноморья, его также можно увидеть на небольших глубинах в Атлантическом океане от Франции до Сенегала! Это означает, что Париж-Дакар стал доступен этим существам задолго до того, как это придумали люди!
