I am delighted to be contacted by the Guizhou Tourism Office 🇨🇳 to assist in promoting this incredible region known for its natural and cultural heritage. This aligns perfectly with my photographic work, as I focus on environmental issues and cultural legacies. Interestingly, I had the opportunity to hold a personal exhibition on the Bishnois in Dali, Yunnan, not far from Guizhou. During my Transboundary Rivers project, I was also on assignment in this region.
My journey with China now continues to the province of Guizhou, nestled in the mountainous southwest of China. It’s a land of dense forests, emerald waters, deep caves, rivers with boiling rapids, and traditional villages nestled in the mountains. Traditional villages dot the mountains, making it a treasure trove for outdoor adventures and cultural exploration. Let me highlight some of its remarkable features:
💧Huangguoshu Waterfall: This magnificent waterfall in Guizhou is a sight to behold. Its thundering waters plunge dramatically, surrounded by lush greenery.
🏞️ Mount Fanjing: Rising majestically, Mount Fanjing is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its unique rock formations and serene temples create an otherworldly atmosphere.
🍶 Spiritual Hub: Guizhou is known for producing some of China’s finest spirits. Whether you’re a connoisseur or just curious, exploring local distilleries is a must.
🧑🏻🦰👱♂️ Ethnic Diversity: Guizhou is home to various ethnic groups, each contributing to its rich cultural tapestry. Their traditions, festivals, and crafts add vibrancy to the region.
🔬Surprising Innovation: Beyond its natural beauty, Guizhou is a hub for science and technological innovation. It’s fascinating how this scenic province also embraces cutting-edge advancements.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Guizhou offers thrilling activities like jungle mountain biking 🚴♂️, low-altitude skydiving, and exploring vast underground cave networks. Notably, French explorer Jean Bottazzi ventured through the Shuanghe cave system, known as “China’s longest cave.” It’s a destination waiting to be discovered!
To learn more, consider visiting the exhibition “Guizhou: China’s Hidden Beauty” at the Chinese Cultural Center in Paris, starting on April 19, 2024.
