Cardross Parish Church has a history dating back to 1226, with a charter granting the Church of Cardross to the Bishop of Glasgow. The church was initially located on the west bank of the River Leven. In 1941, the original church was destroyed by bombing, and the tower was preserved as a war memorial. Clune Park, located in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, was constructed in the early 20th century to accommodate shipyard workers. The estate comprised 430 flats across 45 tenement blocks, along with a school and a church. Following the decline of the shipbuilding industry, the area experienced significant depopulation and deterioration.
