"Supernova"

The Tulip Festival just ended, but I'm lucky enough to have some late bloomers that are still out at the end of May!
While I usually tend to post photos I've taken ages ago, I'm doing something pretty unusual for me and sharing this photo I took just a few days ago at our house... An intense closeup of this "Queen of Night" dark tulip looking like a supernova - the grand finale of the "star" of the season, the Canadian Tulip Festival here in the capital region.

"Time to Rebuild"

A new president for the United States... A lot of work ahead, a lot to be fixed. Time to put the pieces back together, and even more difficult, unite the people as well. Time for some much needed body work to get back on wheels.

2020 coming to an end, the Christmas lights not quite enough to put a shine on such a complicated year with such complicated memories.

I will remember how easy it can be to divide us, I will remember the time that sped by so much faster than usual. I will also remember the people who stood for each other, and hope that is something that won't be put away in the same box with this year many of us want to forget. I will cherish the few special memories I had the chance to make with my close ones and will wait in anticipation for more.

The time has come to turn off the lights on 2020.
Happy New Year to come! Here's hoping 2021 is full of all the things we have come to miss so much this last year.

"No, you won't steal Christmas!"

It's been a tough year, and many of us are happy to soon see it behind us. In some ways this year flew by. We all missed so much, and as a final touch we are now seeing it end in a lockdown, giving up many of the things that make this season special. For sure there is now hope in sight, but the road ahead is still long.
Like us, most are stuck at home for Christmas and won't see their families. No matter how sad it can feel, we are still some of the fortunate ones to have all that we have - let's not forget that, and try to be happy with what we have.
Sending good thoughts to people who are alone or feel lonely, and Merry Christmas!

"4 Years for Change"

This photo feels pretty significant at a moment like this. Built in honour of the first president of the United States, the Washington Monument is surounded by 50 flags, one for each state. In the background, if you look closely, is the Lincoln Memorial. This picture contains some of the greatest symbols of the US. I love the shadow thrown on the monument - details that any viewer can see with their own perspective, interpret how they like.

The day I took this photo left an impression - the temperature was -25°C with the windchill and I had no winter clothes! I spent an hour outside exploring and then retreated to my hostel.

This picture is for my American friends and for a country that I've loved exploring and hope to see much more of before too long.

Eyes on the final few, eyes on the turmoil, waiting, still standing in the midst of the storm, like this solitary man standing here in front of Independence Hall - America's first president before him.

I've always loved this photo I took back in February 2015, I've never shared it but today it feels extra poignant.
