To all my friends, colleagues, and photography lovers coming to Paris for Paris Photo, and all of my friends in Paris, I would love for you to join me for a special evening of photographs, conversation, and an apéritif.
On Friday, November 13, from 6:30 PM, I’ll be at La Belle Hortense, in the heart of the Marais, sharing photographs spanning the last 50 years from my new book, FROM THE HEART — PARIS and the WORLD, and signing copies.
Photography has been a journey of people, places, and moments that have shaped the way I see our world. It would mean a great deal to share this work with you, reconnect with old friends, and meet new ones. You do not need a ticket to Paris Photo to come to my exhibit.

A tender Thursday morning along the Seine, beneath the soft light of a beautiful Parisian autumn. Two young hearts walking quietly together, with the river beside them and the morning unfolding gently around them.

And elsewhere, young people across France are gathering to make their voices heard—a reminder that youth can hold both tenderness and conviction, the quiet beauty of an ordinary morning and the courage to stand together for what they believe in.

In 1991, while covering the Gulf War, I made a photograph of a soldier aboard an evacuation helicopter learning that his best friend had been killed. That photograph was named World Press Photo of the Year.

In 2003, I was smuggled from Turkey into Iraq across the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in the middle of the night, in a truck inner tube with Kurdish soldiers, so that I could cover the American invasion of Iraq from the north. I eventually reached Baghdad, where I continued to photograph the invasion.

That work became Baghdad Blues—a photographic and written diary of those days, created in large part so that one day my son, and now my daughter, might understand something of the realities of my life during these wars.

As a young man, I was deeply inspired by Larry Burrows and his extraordinary work in Vietnam. He taught me that photography could be made with empathy—that images might reach beyond the politics and machinery of war to touch our hearts and remind us of our common humanity, and of the terrible tragedy of war.

That remains what drives me, always, in both Love and War.

Here I share these photographs, which appear in my new book, FROM THE HEART, Paris and the World, with that same intention: to look at our world through the human heart, and to bear witness to the beauty, vulnerability, love, and suffering that we share.

Today, students took to the streets across France, turning school gates and city streets into places of protest.
What began in September around Paris has grown into a nationwide movement, with high-school and university students joined by teachers, parents and trade unions. At the heart of the demonstrations are concerns over underfunded schools, overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, deteriorating buildings and uncertainty about the future.
A day when students across France made themselves heard.

A beautiful weekend on the Île Saint-Louis, in the heart of Paris, made even more memorable by a fashion show featuring the great designer Jérôme Blin—and by a wonderful reunion between my dear friend Patrice and his childhood friend Joël, on the terrace of Café Lutetia.

Moments of friendship, beauty, memories, and Parisian magic. ❤️
