From the camera of a tiny Nokia flip phone to a silver Sony Cybershot to my iPhone - I constantly took up every bit up space possible with pictures of anyone, anything and everything.

There were loads of them just perched beside the pond, completely unbothered as I moved closer. Slightly windy that day. At one point the feathers on one of them just went --- and I couldn't help but laugh behind the camera. Even Snowy Egrets have bad hair days.

I had no idea this was even a thing until I witnessed it myself. The male Cardinal feeds the female during courtship --- his way of proving he can provide for their young when the time comes.

It's called courtship feeding, and most Cardinal pairs who do this end up mating for life. I've been trying to catch them in this moment again ever since.
They are pretty and sneaky haha.

There are a couple of alligators that live in a small pond on our street. I've made a habit of slowing down every time I pass --- on foot or by car --- just to see if I can spot them. Most days you'd never know anything was there. Then suddenly, just barely above the surface, those eyes. The copper and orange of the fallen leaves against that dark water made this one of my favorite shots. Florida is wild. Literally.

Stepped outside during lunch time to see what was happening by the pond. I was focused on something to my right when I caught movement to my left --- this Great blue Heron already mid-meal, trying to make off with its catch before anyone noticed. I started shooting as fast as I could.

The second photo was later chosen by to be exhibited in Orlando.

Sometimes you just have to show up and look left!

Out on a trail at the Flatwoods Preserve when I spotted this Great Blue Heron perched on a log in the middle of the river, lost in its own world --- preening, tidying up, winding down. I waited for that flash of pink underneath and held my breath and the shutter down.

There is something catching about a wild thing in a completely unbothered moment that made the whole walk worth it.

We had just moved into our new home when I realized the pond right behind us was something special. I crouched down one morning to see what I could find --- and heard a splash to my left. I swung my camera toward the sound and all I could see were wings coming out of water.

I held down the shutter button and prayed. Turns out what I thought was a hawk was actually an Osprey --- one of nature's most precise hunters --- pulling its morning catch straight out of the water. My backyard has been teaching me ever since.

Finally made it to the Taj Mahal with my Sony a7c 📸

I couldn’t believe the detail that went into building something enormous! 17 years - over 20,000 workers. Every surface covered in semi-precious stones - turquoise, lapis lazuli, jade, coral, onyx - all hand carved into white marble.

The marble itself shifts color depending on the time of day.

Once held nearly 468,000 grams of gold - long gone now.

Still breathtaking centuries later!

Sandhill Cranes are one of the oldest bird species on earth, with fossils dating back nearly 2.5 million years. Honestly their faces look a little pterodactyl-like to me — and now I can't unsee it. They mate for life and perform elaborate dancing rituals to court each other, a display of fierce loyalty to their partner. I had no idea I was witnessing one of those rituals play out right next to a daycare parking lot while waiting to pick up my kids.

It was the gold against the dark stone that stopped me. A magnificent wrought-iron gate in the Louis XVI style marks the enterance to the Palais de Justice --- a building that was once the residence of French Kings and later the courthouse where Marie Antoinette and Robespierre faced trial during the French Revolution.

The drama is built right into the walls.

How can a building made entirely of 673 glass panels look so perfectly symmetrical and endlessly clean — yet here the Louvre Pyramid stands, flawless against the Paris sky. The geometry is almost unreal up close.

And yes, my daughter held up the whole thing. You are welcome, Paris.
