Here's a shot that I edited, but for some reason didn't post during the massive solar storm we had in January this year. It's a panorama composed of several shots taken at Eagles Nest, Inverloch, Victoria. The colour on the ground is the aurora reflected in the rockpools.

It was such a magical night, as I could see the aurora with my own eyes, even if it was just a white haze off in the distance, and I genuinely wish everyone could see a sight like this.

This time last year, I was in London reenacting the famous album cover by The Beatles by walking across Abbey Road.

In a few days time, I would be shooting this photo in Venice. As I said before, I wish I could have spent longer in Venice, as it was just full of interesting things to photograph, with a lot of history in it's very roots.

Another shot from Montmartre, Paris, during our 2025 European trip. We were lucky enough to get there around sunset, so the lighting was amazing, and the temperature was almost perfect.

I could sure use some of that summer right about now though, as I'm rugged up in my room, shivering like mad despite having the heater on.

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of us flying to the UK and seeing Oasis / touring Europe for 3 wonderful weeks.

Because I'm forced to go to work instead of flying around the world having a good time, I'd appreciate your privacy during this very difficult time.

Anyway, this photo was taken at the top of Montmartre. Everyone was oohing and aahing at the view from the top, but I was taking photos of drain grates. You and I? We are built differently.

About a month ago my wife and I travelled to Sydney, and I got to witness the partial destruction of the Sydney Opera House (if you need context, google TISM Opera House Damage -- the group I went to see allegedly caused $18,000 AUD worth of damage to seats and other parts of the main chamber).

On one of our days there, we went to the Chinese Garden of Friendship and I stood in this pavillion and took a photo.

It's incredibly difficult to point directly upwards without a tripod or spirit level, so I had to do some rotating, cropping, perspective shifting and masking to get this shot.

Another Mt. Pilatus shot. This time I decided a black and white shot would look better, as the blue haze in the distance made editing this nearly impossible.

We're coming up to the 1 year anniversary of our trip to the UK to see Oasis / do a European tour. I want to travel again, but this pesky thing called "money" keeps standing in the way, so if you'd like to donate to the "let David just roam the country / the earth for ages" fund, hit me up.

Happy Mothers Day to everyone who celebrates it (me), and happy I just saw Venjent perform again day to those celebrate that too (also me).

(I swear I had posted this on Facebook, but for some reason it didn't post, so I'll try again)

I'm very glad to have a mum who looks out for me, and looks after me. She not only taught me how to be a mostly functional human being, but is also a volunteer for a few organizations in the local community, so her kindness is far reaching.

So again, happy Mothers Day to those who celebrate it. If for some reason you don't speak to your mum, I'll be your mum, and I'm proud of the person you've become, though I wish you'd stop smoking, it's bad for you.

We all know it, we all love it, many of us have seen it with our own eyes, some have been photographed with it, pretending to push it up, and some of us have been photographed with it, pretending it's their ge****ls, but here it is again, Le Tower d'Oblique del Pizza, or to use it's actual, non-I'm-just-bullsh*tting-you name, Torre Pendente di Pisa, or the Tower of Pisa.

I think I may have angled this shot so the lean is more pronounced (as it's only tilted by four degrees in reality), but it truly is impressive to see.

Also, I expected to drive through a tall, bustling city and see the tower in the middle of some plaza as if it was just another thing someone would walk past on their way to work (Rome felt exactly like that, with things that were centuries old being right next modern buildings), but it was the tallest thing in the city and getting there felt like I was going through the outermost suburbs of Melbourne, passing by lots of farmland and going down some (relatively) quiet roads to get there.

Anyway, it was a cloudless day, and my polarizing filter meant I could get some deep blue skies, which, when made black and white, gives this black background, making the tower really stand out

Another shot from Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland. The hardest part of editing shots like this is the blue haze in the distance. The dehaze tool in Lightroom can only do so much before your picture gets a bit cooked.

Merging to a HDR can help a bit, which it seemed to here, but I left a lot of the haze in to contrast with the reddish rocks.

Since August last year, I've posted 18 photos (including this one). That's the most photography I've posted since 2018.

Part of it has been having European photos to edit, as that whole region is just so photogenic, part of it has been having a new PC that can just edit photos without hesitation, and part of it is just a very slow easing up of the intense burnout I felt after doing the 365 challenge back in 2015. I'm still not 100% back, but hey, I've posted 18 photos since August, so I think I'm doing alright!

Anyway, this photo was taken in Florence. I was wandering down some side streets when I saw these two women walking off in the distance. The street might seem empty, but there I managed to catch a lucky break, as just a few seconds later, some people wandered past me, and came walking down the other end of the street.

I also just recently reinstalled Photomatix on my new computer. Lightroom's HDR is okay, sorta, but Photomatix has SO much more in terms of settings you can futz with. It's good to have it back!
