It's been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I'd share some pictures I took in Scotland a few years back. I've reworked these in Adobe Lightroom.

Since I, like most of us, have found some extra time on my hands, I thought why not spend it creatively. So, obeying stay at home and social distancing rules, I went out in the backyard and started snapping pictures. Pictures of the pets, pictures of bugs and critters and birds, pictures of plants...pretty much anything. So, that took a few hours. Now what? Sure I have some neat shots, but mostly boring.

Then I thought, how can I make these shots a bit more interesting? Why am I stuck in this compositional rut of “rule-of -thirds? Time to break some rules! So, I figured, I’d do some research. What I found was the often under used rule of “the middle line”. Here is a brief but interesting video to get your creative juices flowing. Enjoy, and stay safe.

Snow Moon Setting

Moonset picture without to aid of photoshop. Only my typical workflow of Lightroom adjustments and cropping to 16 X 10 aspect ratio to the RAW file.

Luxor

So this one I had to use the moon from a bracketed exposure for just the moon and put it over the blown out moon in the original foreground exposure...increasing its size slightly.

My Hummingbirds like to perch on the plants right below the feeder, so I decided to snap a few shots. It's amazing how a little sunlight shows their iridescence and illuminates all the wonderful colors. No sun, no color.

Crater Lake in the Snow Panorama 3/24/19

Everything was pretty much snowed in at Crater Lake this day. The roads getting into the south park entrance were plowed and clear, but only to the lower visitor center. The north entrance and rim drive were snowed in. The wife and I had to hike up the Raven trail. It's only 1 mile, but ascends 610 ft. The trail was pretty icy in parts because foot and snowshoe traffic. We didn't bring our snowshoes, so it was an interesting hike. Step off the packed snow and you were thigh deep.

This is a handheld 14 vertical shot panorama stitched together and processed in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
