I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since the first time I watched it, and I must have watched Denis Villeneuve’s ARRIVAL at least 11 times by now (last shot 2 days ago), I can say that this movie deeply shook me, both emotionally and metaphysically. And it has taken on even more meaning over the past two years. I’ve only just made the connection between this summer’s eclipse and this symbol, which means LIFE in the Heptapod language.

How deeply did this movie touch you as well and why ?

Que devient le cri de la terre quand la nature se tait, sinon ce chaos de branches sèches et de pierres tombées en pluie de l’enfer.
L’arbre meurt de notre fureur moderne.
Où va la sève quand la sécheresse imite nos déserts ? Et que reste-t-il du vert quand on a tout brûlé ?

Même dans les ruines du monde, la révolte ne s’éteint jamais.

My first eclipse was in 1999, in my parents’ garden. A vague feeling I understood 27 years later here in Navarre, Spain. A total eclipse is not something you can fully see or explain, you have to feel it. The same goes for music, sound reach your soul without ever letting you hold it. So I imagined a vinyl cover linking both.

For a moment, I felt as though the Sun, the Moon, and us on the Earth were a single entity, like those red threads that, as the story goes, connect people to one another and that one day, somewhere, eventually become tangled. Learning to see with the heart rather than with the eyes, perhaps that was the real point all along.

And you, how did you feel at that moment ?
