These pics were all taken one evening after a scorching summer day spent cutting up an enourmous fallen tree with three fellow legends of the chop. The local fire brigade siren punctuated the bush sounds and fortunately all alerts were only minor spot fires. They did make enough smoke to give that distinctive “bushfire smoke filter” vibe, which is beautiful but also unsettling.

I took this photo years ago as part of a project that kept ticking over, then stalled, then disappeared into the archive. Then one day, looking for something else your see it and remember quite liking the shot and a little seed is planted that might grow into finally finishing the project and printing it so you can move on and not keep carrying these unfinished series around in the back of your mind.

Marked for Removal.
I saw these trees with their yellow paint and immediately thought -yeah, I know how you feel.
You can see this series on my website, along with others, under personal projects. It’d be cool if you visited.

Outtakes showing the passage of time and the passing of countless people leaving their mark. From a project called Record of Attendance made during the brilliant The Series Project created by .force and . It was mind altering but without drugs, and changed how I think about photography.

“Look down. A million people pass by leaving their presence worn into the surfaces they touch. Evidence of the passage of time. A vast collection of moments made physical by the accumulation of imperceptible changes.
Like an unwritten record of attendance.”

If you read this far, thankyou. I appreciate you!

I took this photo from the top deck of a houseboat on the Murray River a few years ago.
I wrote this to go with it …

I try to look back through time at this river I see, the Murray River, Dhungala to the original custodians of this area.
The banks have moved, the water flows and the trees grow and die, so the river is the same and different at once.
This is how I see those changes over the passage of time- a shape, a form, but the features blurred and indistinct.

It was a finalist in the APA awards back then which gave it some nice memories to carry with it.

A security guard stood watching while I photographed these buildings in London before telling me deadpan,
“You’re taking photos of the ugliest building in London you know”.
Which was exactly the point and meant I could stop searching.
