For completeness, here's the Zeiss Ikon Nettar 510/2, probably made in 1933, and the final two vertical shots on the roll, which I featured separately in my last post because of the landscape orientation because Instagram says so!
As well as the familiar Brighton seafront landmark of the i360, the blue house photo is, as for the earlier cemetery shots, from the St Nicolas Rest Garden.

A year or so ago I tried out my father's 94 year old Zeiss Icon Ikonta camera with a roll of black and white film and I've not used it since. So I loaded a roll of 120 Kodak Gold 200 asa to see what emerged from a brief test around Brighton. With two shutter speeds 1/75 and 1/25, a maximum aperture of f7.7 it was going to be interesting as to what came out on this film for what the camera was not designed, indeed this will be the only time in its life that it has shot colour film.

With a massive 8 frames to play with (negatives 6x9cm) these were the six horizontally composed images. I'm impressed with the sharpness (the final two shots were not so sharp because of me not holding it steadily enough) and I'm not surprised at the low contrast - this was manufactured before the days of lens coatings. That could be fixed in Lightroom but for instagram they will just look as if I've applied some cool film filter...

It happened in 2023 and it’s happening again in 2026, making wine from the garden grapes, a single vine growing in hardcore. And here’s a little sequence from on the vine to 2 days later bubbling away in my beer making container, with a little help from Chilli the cat and Luigi the neighbour.
I am trying to follow the method I used 3 years ago which was surprisingly successful and fingers crossed it will happen again - although there is a key difference in that the fermentation in 2023 took ages to start and I never got to see what I am seeing now (final video) - in fact in 2023 we went away on holiday and just left it and hoped for the best!

Normally when Brighton Pride comes around we are on holiday, but the likelihood of taking off from Brighton during August (school holidays and all that) is now somewhat less than it used to be - so I took off into town to get my first Pride pics in about 10 years...

The view from the tent - tonight’s camping sunset in Minchinhampton, just outside Stroud.
Having ditched the motorhome after buying our tickets for this year End of the Road Festival, we realised we needed to get a tent and this is our dry run. All very pleasant, and warm, and very dry.
Needless to say, Cranbourne Chase at the start of September might be a little different!

So farewell impressive Aachen, we are on the train home in the UK now.
The golden sarcophagus in the cathedral that contains Charlemagne’s remains may be historically significant but was distant in my photo and not quite as amusing as this street art near our hotel.

Another brief passing through of Hamburg. This time a stopover after an 11 hour journey from Gothenburg, so managed to get out to eat vegeburgers (as one does) and grab a few photos before collapsing into bed.

Today is our last full day in Sweden. The super sunny weather prompted a visit to the islands of Styrso and Donso in the Gothenburg archipelago and lots of picture postcard photos ensued…

We have moved on to Karlstad, a relatively small city more or less in the centre of Sweden, which is built on the river delta of the country’s longest river which empties into Sweden’s largest lake. Loads of water and greenery built on broad streets which may be to do with the fact that the whole city, other than five surviving buildings, burned to the ground about 150 years ago.

Today we headed out into the Stockholm archipelago on the public transport system, the Waxholmbolaget, finishing up at Grenadjarbryggan on the island of Rindo. A real unexpected treat on the way back was to find ourselves on the steam powered ferry Storskar, built in 1909 and in daily use!
