The times they are a changing. No more fooling around, now the place is run by the army (was is the NG?) and we had to face new rules. First we had to wear an orange vest, and then we had to form a line whenever we would enter or leave the place. So far that the closest I’ve been to army life. We were under the supervision of a guy from the air force, and I’m ashamed but I can’t remember his name... He was the face of authority, but I only remember a super duper cool dude! Apart from that, obviously our presence was less and less essential, and I guess everybody was getting ready to face real life pretty soon.

Gas mask? Gloves? Helmet ? Safety shoes ? Naaaaa, none of that was essential ! After the first week (or was it 10 days??) The only important item was this pass. Without it, you would have been kicked out really fast! I believed very few “civilians”, specially irresponsible youngsters like us, got the sesame, and it felt like being awarded a medal!

At one point things got organized, and the police came to kick us out of the site. So we have cops that we never saw before telling us that we don’t have anything to do here, and that we have to leave right now...That’s when the firefighters came in and told the cops : « They were the first here, they stay here, period ». I was told they almost got into a fight! (I was out of the BK at that moment) Thanks to the firefighters we could stay and continue to run the place !

« A pit stop- not only for the burgers but also for the nurturing, hugs, and encouragement from the cute kids behind the counter » I don’t know about the cut kids but for the rest that paper is pretty accurate. At that time a proper food station run by the I believe has opened right by the BK so we turned it more in a snack (and hug)station. I must say that at that time I was not too much into that name and sign, I even left for the picture! But years after, l named that account after it!

Update ! I found a piece of paper with the name of the fire station posted earlier. It’s the in the Bronx AKA The Cuckoo’s Nest.
